These WWE stars embraced the babyface role and won fans’ hearts

Pro wrestling fans are no strangers to unexpected twists and turns in storylines. However, there are special moments when a beloved star transitions to a babyface, capturing the hearts of fans in the process.

Such moments are edged forever in the fan’s heart and a successful transition has helped in reviving multiple careers. While face turns play on the audience’s love for redemption stories, heel turns appeal to the thrill of betrayal, shock, and the darker side of character transformation.

As 2024 comes to an end, we take a look back at five of the best face turns in the WWE that were received with open arms by the fandom.

5. Jimmy Uso

Jimmy Uso returned to action after a six-month hiatus at Bad Blood 2024 PLE where he assisted Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes win their match against The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa & Jacob Fatu). Although, Jimmy turned face before his hiatus when he was assaulted badly by his former Bloodline members.

His return cemented his face turn as he continued to make amends which led to the reunion of The Usos with Jey Uso and subsequently the reunion of the OG Bloodline as Reigns, The Usos, and Sami Zayn reunited to tackle the rogue Bloodline.

This storyline reached its peak when Jey along with his OG Bloodline members and CM Punk defeated Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline in the men’s WarGames clash.

4. Bayley

On the February 2 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Bayley confronted her Damage CTRL (Iyo Sky, Asuka & Kairi Sane) members for talking about her behind her back. However, her fellow stablemates turned on her and attacked Bayley leading to her face turn for the first time since 2019.

However, Bayley‘s face turn has been very underwhelming as she has mostly been featured as a footnote in storylines excluding her feud after being kicked out of Damage CTRL. Bayley has features on multiple matches and segments but the creative team has yet to include her in a major storyline.

3. Damian Priest

‘The Archer of Infamy’ Damian Priest‘s face turned when he was betrayed by Finn Balor, his stablemate from the Judgement Day. Balor betrayed Priest during his match against Gunther at SummerSlam PLE. This betrayal cost Priest the Heavyweight title and he turned face for the first time since 2022.

Priest was subsequently kicked out of the faction by Balor who introduced the ‘new’ Judgment Day which consisted of himself, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, Carlito, and Liv Morgan. Priest’s feud with Balor and his on-mic performances against Priest and especially Gunther has solidified his face run.

Priest was once again attacked by Balor during Survivor Series PLE where he was battling the Heavyweight champion Gunther. The reignited feud between the two stars will continue to take shape next year.

2. Rhea Ripley

After a three-month hiatus due to injury, Rhea Ripley returned to reclaim the Women’s World Title from Liv Morgan at SummerSlam. However, during the match, Ripley was betrayed by Dominik Mysterio, leading to her first pinfall loss since May 2022.

This betrayal was followed by Balor kicking out Ripley from the Judgement Day faction along with Damian Priest. Rhea turned face for the first time since April 2022, and despite multiple injuries and hiatus WWE fans seemed to like Ripley even more.

Ripley’s stardom grew bigger and bigger with each passing of course the presence of a tremendous heel in Liv Morgan elevated Rhea’s face turn. Ripley is now set to face Liv Morgan for the Women’s World title in a last-woman standing match at the debut episode of WWE Raw on Netflix next month.

1. Roman Reigns

‘The OTC’ Roman Reigns passed over the torch to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 as Rhodes defeated Reigns ending his dominant 1316 days title reign. Following his loss, Reigns took a hiatus and was absent from WWE programming for a long time until SummerSlam PLE.

Solo Sikoa capitalized on Reigns’ absence and crowned himself as the de facto Tribal Chief. However, Sikoa’s reign was more brutal than that of Roman as he attacked Bloodline members who didn’t fall in line and expelled them from the group.

Reigns’ return at SummerSlam PLE was met by a massive pop from the audience, The OTC helped Rhodes against Sikoa in retaining the title. This led to the storyline between Reigns and the Bloodline which turned out to be the best storyline of 2024.

The back and forth between the two led to the reunification of the OG Bloodline as The Usos and Sami Zayn joined forces with Reigns. The clash between the two Bloodlines in the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series PLE produced some of the most viral moments of the year.

It’s unclear how long Reigns will maintain his babyface persona, but fans are fully behind him. This is likely due to him keeping many of the same traits he had before his turn, making the shift feel natural.

What are your favorite face turns of the year? Do you think Reigns’ face turn will last or will he once again turn heel after gaining the Ula Fala along with the throne? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.
