Some promising WWE storylines since the onset of this year have failed to captivate the fans.
WWE has been producing some of the most compelling and intriguing storylines that had the fans hooked to their television programming and live shows each week since the start of the year. While some storylines have been highly over and benefitted the stars as well, others have completely failed despite being promising.
Here are five of those WWE’s bookings that completely fail to either resonate with the audience or benefit the WWE superstars that were involved in the same.
5. Otis-Alpha Academy
During Otis’ stint as Chad Gable’s best student in the Alpha Academy, the fans began to side with Otis, even after Gable turned heel, with WWE promoting the “Free Otis” storyline. Moreover, multiple moments could have been the start of a strong push for Otis as a singles star again with more popularity than a stint with Mandy Rose. However, after Chad formed another faction with The Creed Brothers, Otis reverted to the tag team division losing all momentum.
4. Ilja Dragunov’s failed push
Ilja Dragunov’s successful tenure in NXT earned him a place on Monday Night RAW as part of the WWE Draft 2024. He had a promising start in the King of the Ring tournament and was even slated in the WWE Intercontinental Championship picture. However, his poor booking and showing the Mad Dragon as a vulnerable target of Bron Breakker immediately diffused his booking as a top star on RAW.
3. Jade Cargill’s ascend
Jade Cargill’s first WWE appearance in the 2024 Royal Rumble match displayed dominance and set the stage for Cargill to quickly ascend to the top. However, after WrestleMania 40, Jade was predominately featured as a tag team wrestler with Bianca Belair. While it looked like she would begin her rise in the Queen of the Ring tournament, WWE failed to book him properly, with her run being a lackluster one so far.
2. Cody Rhodes’ title run
The road to Cody Rhodes winning the Undisputed WWE Championship garnered one of the most significant traction for WWE in years. However, since that night, Rhodes’ title run has been heavily criticized, alongside his presentation and weak promo skills, hinting that WWE failed to build his stature similar to the previous titleholder, who made a huge impact right from the start of his title reign.
1. Jey Uso’s potential World Title run
Jey Uso is undoubtedly one of the most popular WWE superstars today. Yet, WWE has failed to position him in important storylines and give him meaningful opportunities. While it was heavily rumored that Uso would win the Money in the Bank ladder match to begin his ascend in the main event scene, WWE once again failed to pull the trigger and completely derailed Jey Uso’s momentum.
