A former World Champion can make his return

We are mere days away from the 2025 Backlash Premium Live Event, and WWE has announced five matches for the show. Many big names like John Cena, Randy Orton, Pat McAfee, and Gunther will be involved in high-profile bouts, and fans are very excited for the show.

Backlash has always been a consistently good show throughout its history, and after the mixed reception of WrestleMania 41, WWE is under immense pressure to deliver an impressive event. This can lead to them making some interesting booking decisions. Therefore, in this article, we will make seven bold predictions for Backlash 2025.

7. Lyra Valkyria retains IC title

Backy Lynch made her much-awaited return at WrestleMania 41 and won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship along with Lyra Valkyria. However, after losing it only 24 hours later, Becky snapped and attacked her partner. This led to Lyra and The Man engaging in a feud involving the Women’s Intercontinental title.

WWE can strongly book Lyra Valkyria and let her get a clean victory over one of the biggest names in the company. This can help the newcomer establish herself as the next big thing on the main roster.

6. Bayley returns

Bayley was not able to compete in the show of shows after she was attacked by someone. The mystery attacker was later revealed to be Becky Lynch, and it’s a clear indication that WWE is planning a feud between the two. After losing the Intercontinental title match, Becky can attack Lyra, and just before seriously injuring the champion, Bayley can make her return to save the day.

WWE can then build a long-term feud between the three women that will conclude at this year’s SummerSlam.

5. Pat McAfee pushes Gunther to the limit

Gunther vs Pat McAfee is one of the marquee matches that has been booked for 2025 Backlash. The storyline is compelling as well, and fans are completely invested in this feud. However, Gunther is expected to win this one pretty easily.

Pat McAfee is not a full-time performer, and the Ring General is one of the best Wrestlers on the roster, but WWE can book Pat to put up a good fight. After getting the upper hand early on, Gunther can lose concentration, which will allow Pat to fight back and push his opponent to the limit before ultimately falling short.

4. Solo Sikoa turns on Jacob Fatu

The cracks started emerging in the new bloodline after Solo Sikoa lost to Roman Reigns at Raw’s debut episode on Netflix. After being its leader for months, Solo had to take a back seat as Jacob Fatu emerged as the face of the faction.

Jacob also won his first title on the main roster at WrestleMania 41, and Sikoa had shown some signs of insecurity and jealousy ever since. After seeing Jacob beating three other main eventers to retain his title, Solo can just explode and turn on his blood.

3. Finn Balor costs Dominik the Intercontinental Championship

We can find striking similarities when we compare the dynamics of Finn and Dominik to Solo and Jacob. Finn was the first ever Universal Champion, and he joined the Judgement Day to get back to the top of WWE.

However, since then, he has seen Damian Priest winning the world title and Dominik Mysterio winning the Intercontinental title, while he failed to make the most of his opportunities. Fueled by anger, he can turn on Dominik at Backlash and break away from the Judgement Day.

2. Goldberg returns to challenge Gunther

Gunther will be going face-to-face against Pat McAfee at the event. WWE has booked this story to perfection so far, and there is no doubt that the match will be great as well. After the match is concluded and Gunther’s hand is raised, Goldberg can make his return to challenge the ring general.

Goldberg has announced that he will wrestle his last WWE match in 2025, and the company planted some seeds about Gunther being his last opponent at Bad Blood in 2024.

1. A mystery attacker helps John Cena

John Cena will defend his WWE championship against the Viper, Randy Orton. This will be the final chapter of their legendary rivalry, and fans are expecting something memorable.

Picture this, Randy Orton hits an RKO and is on the verge of clinching the victory, but just before the three count, a mysterious figure takes out the referee and attacks Randy Orton, which results in John Cena retaining the title.

This will spark interest among the fans about the identity of the attacker, and WWE can build this long-term storyline going into the Money In The Bank or even SummerSlam.
