Roman Reigns picked CM Punk after winning the men’s Royal Rumble.

Following his win in the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match, Roman Reigns picked World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk as his opponent for WrestleMania 42. The two rivals engaged in a fiery promo, which created a ton of hype for the showdown.

This will be the second meeting between Punk and Reigns after last year’s Mania, where the two battled in a triple threat match also involving Seth Rollins, who ultimately bagged the win, courtesy of a double betrayal by Paul Heyman.

During the segment, it was also confirmed that the showdown will headline the ‘Grandest Stage,’ which was expected given the involvement of two of the biggest names in pro wrestling.

Recently, Punk made an appearance on ESPN’s No Contest Wrestling, where he previewed the match, confirming that it will headline Night 2 of the show.

“I think we can officially announce here, I got this word from inside sources, CM Punk versus Roman Reigns is officially the main event of WrestleMania 42, which means you are the main event of night two.”

When questioned about the weight of headlining night two compared to his night one main event last year, Punk responded that he doesn’t differentiate and pointed out that fans continue to argue over which night carries greater significance, even nodding to a past promo where he had argued that night one held the edge.

“I currently don’t feel any more pressure to perform night two than I did night one, Now, maybe that’ll change. I think if it does, it’ll be incremental. I don’t differentiate between the two.

People will argue that I once said in a promo, which doesn’t make it real life, ladies and gentlemen. God, they’re the easiest ones to work. I got you right here in the palm of his hand.“

During the conversation, the Second City Saint also reflected on how everything he has done in his WWE career has prepared him for such moments.

“Really everything that I’ve ever done in my career has prepared me for these moments. This is all I ever wanted, When I would be screaming at Vince, I need the experience. I need to level up. I can’t be better. I can’t sell more tickets. I can’t draw more money if you don’t put me in those situations.”
