‘The Best in the World’ is currently the World Heavyweight Champion!

CM Punk has shared his reaction to the two-year anniversary of his dramatic return to WWE, a moment that stunned the wrestling world at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 in his hometown of Chicago.

The comeback marked his first WWE appearance since leaving the company in January 2014, closing a near decade-long chapter of absence and uncertainty.

After being fired from AEW in early September 2023, the door suddenly reopened for The Second City Saint. His reconciliation with WWE and notably with Triple H set the stage for one of the most electric returns in modern wrestling history. Two years later, Punk took to Instagram Stories to reflect on that moment.

The reigning World Heavyweight Champion used a reference from Heat, specifically Tom Sizemore’s character Michael Cheritto, to sum up his feelings since returning. The nod suggested he’s thriving in the chaos, intensity, and “action” that comes with WWE life.

CM Punk is thriving in his second WWE run

It’s clear CM Punk is content with where he stands now at 47 years old. Not only is he the World Heavyweight Champion, but his wife, AJ Lee, is also back with the company.

He’s set to lead his team into Survivor Series: WarGames this Saturday against Team Vision, highlighting how central he’s become to WWE’s biggest storylines.

For a man who walked away from WWE under strained circumstances in 2014, Punk’s current position speaks volumes about how much has changed and how well his return has worked out.

He appears motivated, locked in, and genuinely excited about the pace of his WWE schedule. The Heat reference he posted drives the feeling home: Punk is enjoying every bit of the “action.”

Despite his long list of accomplishments, CM Punk still has one major dream left. Speaking on Mostly Sports, he revealed he wants to wrestle at Wrigley Field, the historic home of his beloved Chicago Cubs. He called on the ballpark’s ownership to push for WWE to host a show there, saying it would be a dream to perform in that setting.

WWE has a long history of hosting events inside MLB stadiums, including venues such as Rogers Centre, T-Mobile Park, Hard Rock Stadium, Chase Field, Daikin Park, and Tropicana Field. This year, San Diego’s Petco Park is set to host Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29, another nod to WWE’s growing list of stadium venues.

How did CM Punk celebrate his WWE return anniversary?

He posted a reference from the film Heat on Instagram, reflecting on how much he enjoys the “action” of being back in WWE.

What is CM Punk’s remaining dream match?

CM Punk wants to wrestle at Wrigley Field and hopes the Cubs’ ownership will campaign for WWE to host an event there.
