The American Nightmare won the ‘Undisputed WWE Championship’ in the main event of WrestleMania 40
The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes just won his first-ever main event title in WWE at WrestleMania 40. Though his Pro Wrestling career is very long, it is important to understand that it was not easy for him to be what he is nowadays.
Rhodes was released from WWE in 2016 and was re-signed with the company in 2022 where he fought against Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins in his comeback match. Here is a list of all his title reigns in WWE.
Intercontinental Championship (2011-12)
Cody Rhodes captured the Intercontinental Championship in 2011 by defeating Ezekiel Jackson, marking his first solo title reign in WWE. His initial victory was significant as it showcased his ability to thrive as a singles competitor. However, his reign was short-lived as The Big Show managed to pin him the following year, ending his championship run.
Rhodes didn’t back down, though, and engaged in a heated rivalry with The Big Show, eventually reclaiming the Intercontinental Championship. However, Christian emerged as a formidable challenger, ultimately dethroning Rhodes and adding another chapter to the title’s storied history.
Tag Team Championship (2008, 2011)
Cody Rhodes indeed had a remarkable career in WWE, especially in the tag team division. In September 2008, he won his first World Tag Team Championship. Later, he formed a successful tag team with Ted DiBiase Jr., with whom he won tag team titles together. Their partnership was part of The Legacy stable, which also included Randy Orton.
In 2010, Rhodes experienced another tag team triumph when he and Drew McIntyre won the Unified Tag Team Championship.
Rhodes’s tag team journey took another significant turn in 2013 when he teamed up with his brother, Dustin Rhodes, famously known as Goldust. Despite their significant age difference, they formed a formidable duo and won the WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Battleground 2013.
Their partnership, however, didn’t stop there. In June 2014, Rhodes adopted the persona of Stardust, a character with elaborate face paint reminiscent of his brother’s Goldust persona. As Stardust, he and Goldust continued their success in the tag team division, reclaiming the titles and showcasing their unique chemistry in the ring.

Undisputed Tag Team Championship (2023)
Jey Uso’s comeback to WWE sparked a new alliance with Cody Rhodes. Their teamwork led to a showdown with Bálor and Priest at Judgement Day. Finally, on October 7th at Fastlane, Cody and Jey clinched victory, winning the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. It was Cody’s first title since his WWE return and his first tag team title in a decade.
WWE Undisputed Championship (2024)
In an epic showdown, Cody Rhodes triumphed over Roman Reigns to clinch the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in his second chance to do so after WrestleMania 39, marking this his first-ever world title in WWE. Despite the odds stacked against him, Rhodes prevailed, with assistance from wrestling legends like John Cena, the Architect, and the Undertaker.
Becoming The American Nightmare was no easy feat for Cody Rhodes, and now, as he basks in the glory of his championship victory, his journey to becoming one of WWE’s greatest champions has only just begun. There is no harm in saying that the fans are eager to tune in to WWE’s weekly shows to witness Rhodes’s rise to prominence and the exciting plans WWE has in store for their newest champion.
