Cody Rhodes is scheduled to face Gunther at Crown Jewel 2024

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is set to face the WWE Heavyweight Champion Gunther at Crown Jewel 2024 PLE. The ‘Champion vs Champion’ match is for the inaugural Crown Jewel Title.

Rhodes won the championship after defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 while Gunther won the championship from Damian Priest at SummerSlam in August.

In a recent appearance on the Infamous podcast, Rhodes reminisces about the notorious segment in which Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson returned to claim his WrestleMania XL spot against Roman Reigns.

The American Nightmare sat down with comedian Andrew Schulz and Akash Singh to discuss his beef with Roman Reigns, the Vince McMahon Netflix documentary, and finishing his father’s legacy among other things.

The Rock’s comments made Cody Rhodes chuckle

The journey to WrestleMania XL was not as clear-cut as anticipated. After Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, a rematch with Roman Reigns seemed destined for the grand event. However, Johnson made his return and took Rhodes’ spot at WrestleMania.

As the two men embraced in the ring in Birmingham, Alabama Johnson leaned in and whispered something in The American Nightmare’s ear which made the Undisputed champion visibly chuckle.

Rhodes in an appearance on the Infamous podcast has revealed what The Final Boss said in his ear during the interaction. According to Rhodes, The Rock mentioned that they would both make their fathers proud. In response, the champion smiled briefly before heading backstage.

Additionally, Cody also humorously recalled how the cameras continued to focus on him backstage, capturing his somber expression which led many fans to speculate that he was upset.

“Him and I had an embrace. He told me something super sweet in my ear. I’m sure he doesn’t mind me sharing, even though we’re not best buddies, but he said, ‘We’re gonna make both our dads proud.’ And I like smiled for a brief moment then I left,” The American Nightmare stated.

Despite Rhodes initially giving up his shot at WrestleMania against Roman Reigns to Johnson. However, a huge uproar from fans led the WWE to change its plan and Johnson shockingly turned heel for the first time since 2003.
