‘The American Nightmare’ is best known for making some of the grandest entrances

Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest professional wrestling names in the world, who has secured a name for himself. Cody transformed himself into a bigger star in the independent circuits and became one of the undeniable stars in the industry. His hard work in the Indies and other promotions paid him well that he returned to WWE in 2022 with the same American Nightmare gimmick and achieved great success and became the biggest asset of the company.

Ever since Rhodes made his return, he created a separate fan base for his entrances. He has one of the grandest entrances in the company, however the recent entrance at the 2024 SummerSlam has got the attention of many, especially for his masked entrance attire. Cody wore a mask during his entrance, and here we take a look at the meaning behind his mask.

Cody Rhodes’ mask & it’s meaning

At SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes wore the iconic American Nightmare ‘Winged Skull’ mask for his Bloodline rules match against Solo Sikoa in the main event of the show. The Winged skull mask that Cody wore was inspired by his American Nightmare logo, which is the trademark of Cody Rhodes’ character in WWE, since his return in 2022. Cody also had the Phoenix jacket on to symbolize the American heritage.

This is not the first time Cody is wearing the Winged skull mask. Rhodes has already made the iconic entrance with the mask at WrestleMania 40 Night 2, when he went on to battle against Roman Reigns in the Bloodline rules match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Cody’s track record when he turned up with the skull mask is 2-0 and both appearances are for the Bloodline rules match.

Details behind Cody Rhodes’ mask

Cody Rhodes’ iconic skull mask was designed by Jason Baker, who was the one who created Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend Mask. He also had designed several iconic masks for several WWE stars in the past including Triple H’s ‘Skull King’ mask that the Hunter wore for WrestleMania 30, Asuka & Demon King Finn Balor’s mask. Rhodes revealed the man behind the mask on his social media, posing for a selfie with the giant head skull mask and tagged Baker.
