Both stars made their return this past Friday on SmackDown!
âThe Beastâ Brock Lesnar finally made his return this past Friday after SummerSlam in early August, where he attacked John Cena. Lesnar returned on the September 5 episode of Friday Night SmackDown and took out Cena with another F5.
Following the attack, Lesnar announced that he will see Cena at Wrestlepalooza, WWE made the match official moments later for the PLE on September 20 in Indianapolis.
In the final moments of the same episode of Friday Night SmackDown, AJ Lee made her highly anticipated and much-awaited return after over a decade, joining her husband, CM Punk, to combat Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Per PW Insider, Lee is now expected to make an appearance on this weekâs Raw to likely announce a mixed tag team match against Rollins and Lynch. Both stars have also signed new WWE contracts, and hereâs a look at the details.
Brock Lesnar was a free agent before signing a new deal with WWE

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lesnar recently signed a new contract to make his return to WWE. Under his previous deal, he continued to receive payments even when WWE wasnât actively using him. However, that contract eventually expired, leaving him a free agent for several months.
Unlike other cases where WWE can extend contracts due to injury, they couldnât do so with Lesnar because he wasnât injured; it was simply WWEâs decision not to book him, likely due to the lawsuit allegations.
âA correction regarding Brock Lesnar. Lesnar actually just signed a new contract to return. He was getting paid on his prior contract long after they stopped using him, but that deal did expire and he actually was a free agent for months until the new deal was signed.
They couldnât extend the prior deal due to injury like with others because he wasnât injured and it was their choice not to use him.â
Meltzer also noted that WWE was confident Lesnar wouldnât consider an offer from AEW, especially due to the allegations in the lawsuit. They believed Tony Khan would not approach him, and the WWE legal team advised against using him. However, once the legal issues were resolved, the promotion made Lesnar an offer for a new contract with very limited dates.
âThey were likely very confident that Lesnar would sit tight and not entertain an AEW offer, or because of the allegations in the lawsuit they were confident that Tony Khan would not make a pitch to him nor Lesnar make a pitch to Khan when he was a free agent.
When the decision was made by legal not to use him, there was evidently no point in their minds to offer a new contract. When legal cleared him, then they made an offer for a new contract for very limited dates.â
