AJ Styles might wrestle for a different promotion even after WWE retirement.
AJ Styles’ tenure as a WWE superstar came to a heartbreaking end at the 2026 Royal Rumble Premium Live Event. He lost a career-threatening match to Gunther, and that marked the end of his career in the Stamford-based promotion.
However, there is still a chance that he could wrestle for a different promotion in 2026, and these six stars could be the absolute dream match for him.
6. Mike Santana

Mike Santana has been on top of his game in TNA, the same company that made AJ Styles into a marquee star. The Phenomenal One could return to his home turf and challenge him for the TNA World Championship in a blockbuster match for the promotion.
5. 6-man match with The Bucks
AJ Styles’ relationship with The Young Bucks goes back to their time in The Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The former WWE Champion could head to AEW to have a final run with them and wrestle in a major trios match, which would be a stellar hit.
4. Jon Moxley

AJ Styles and Jon Moxley have faced each other in major matches in WWE in the past. However, Moxley is a much-established star now in AEW and could pose a serious challenge for Styles should he make a shocking debut in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
3. Kazuchika Okada

Kazuchika Okada and AJ Styles have clashed in top promotions in their career. The Rainmaker is a top attraction for AEW and would be a dream match for The Phenomenal One for one last encounter before his days as a wrestler end in 2026.
2. Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega is one of the biggest wrestling stars of this generation, on the level of AJ Styles. Before the former WWE superstar finally hangs up his boots for good, he could square off with The Best Bout Machine in a marquee match in AEW should he sign with the promotion.
1. Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay openly said that he wanted AJ Styles to quit WWE and sign with AEW to have a major in-ring encounter with him. With his WWE career over at the Royal Rumble, Styles could make his wish come true and have that dream match, which would be a main event caliber bout for any pay-per-view.
Is AJ Styles’ career over?
His run as a WWE star ended at the Royal Rumble 2026 PLE when he lost to Gunther.
