An elite list of WWE superstars can claim back-to-back victories in the Royal Rumble match.
The WWE Royal Rumble event has been known to be a poignant event in the career of any star who aspires to take their career to the next level. Many have been able to do so by winning the 30-person over-the-top-rop melee and earning a major title opportunity at WrestleMania.
However, there are a select few WWE superstars who can lay claim to back-to-back victories, so let’s take a look at that elite list of stars who earned this rare Royal Rumble feat:
4. Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes returned to the WWE with a single focus: winning the WWE Championship and finishing the story. The first leg began after his return from injury at the 2023 Royal Rumble and winning the match. However, after his failure to capture the title at WrestleMania 39, Rhodes fought through the road once again and won the 2024 Royal Rumble match, becoming the first man in over two decades to win back-to-back matches.
3. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Before Cody Rhodes, the last person to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches was Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Texas Rattlesnake won his first Rumble match in 1997 after last eliminating his iconic rival, Bret Hart. He followed it up the next year in 1998 with another Royal Rumble win by tossing out another of his top rivals, The Rock.
2. Shawn Michaels
The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels became the second person to join the elite list of back-to-back Royal Rumble matches. Michaels won his first Rumble match in 1995, which itself was history-making, as he outlasted 29 other competitors and clinched the win from the number 1 spot. The Showstopper once again entered the Rumble match the following year and walked out the winner again, last eliminating his former associate, Kevin Nash, then known as Diesel.
1. Hulk Hogan
The man who got the ball rolling for consecutive Royal Rumble victories was The Immortal Hulk Hogan. Hulkmania ran wild in the 1990 Royal Rumble match when he entered the match as the WWE Champion and emerged victorious, setting up his iconic ‘Title vs Title’ match against The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan once again entered the Royal Rumble in 1991 and outlasted Earthquake to become the first back-to-back winner of the Royal Rumble match.
