The 8/20 episode of WWE NXT is action-packed with great matches!

WWE successfully hosted the August 20, 2024 episode of WWE NXT live from Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida, United States. WWE showcased some of the best matches and segments on the show including two #1 Contender matches for No Mercy.

Get to know what happened on WWE NXT this week, as we came out with a detailed summary of everything that happened on the show.

Chase University

Chase University kicked off this week’s episode of WWE NXT for the championship celebration. Every Chase U member was proud of Ridge Holland for bringing the title back to the faction.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer interfered with them and demanded a championship rematch. Riley Osborne and Duke Hudson cut them off saying that if they defeat them, they might get a rematch at the title and Axiom & Frazer accepted. They got ready and the match was held immediately.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer vs Riley Osborne & Duke Hudson

Axiom & Osborne started the match with Axiom having initial control taking Osborne out and cutting Hudson off. Frazer got the tag and went for the crucifix bomb, however Hudson countered with the wheelbarrow and tagged Osborne in.

They delivered a spinebuster on Frazer, but Axiom broke. Frazer went for the Spanish Fly, and Duke broke it up. In the final moments, Frazer delivered a Super-plex and Axiom delivered a super kick-assisted suplex on Riley and won the match.

Lola Vice vs Wendy Choo

Both Lola Vice and Wendy Choo started the match countering each other’s moves. Wendy Choo took control of the match with a neck crank, headbutt and a big boot. Vice tried to fight back but Choo fired up to deliver a drop kick. Lola fights back with a couple of clotheslines, kicks and takes Choo down. Choo went for the sleeper hold, but Vice countered with a stunner.

Jordan came to the ring, and Vice accidentally took down Jordan with the back fist. Wendy used the momentum to strike with the pillow and delivered the lateral press to pick up the win. After the match, Jordan challenged Wendy for the NXT Women’s North American Championship at No Mercy.

NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Gauntlet Match

Wren Sinclair (#1) & Sol Ruca (#2) started the match exchanging strikes, crossbody, punches, Half-Crab and X-Factor and more. Timer kicked in and Adrianna Rizzo (#3) joined the match. Sinclair went to Adrianna and delivered a powerbomb. Inside the ring, Sol Ruca delivered a Tenryu Powerbomb on Rizzo and pinned her.

Brinley Reece entered the match (#4) and got fired up with a double suplex, duck forearms and handspring lariats. She knocked out both Sinclair and Ruca and Kendal Grey (#5) entered the match.

Grey was fired up and went after Reece. She delivered a Saito Suplex to Reece and eliminated her. Grey continued her dominance on Wren, and the match went in for a three-way. Jaida Parker (#6) entered the match last and the match went in the faster phase. Parker eliminated Grey with the Gourbuster. Roca eliminated Sinclair with the Sol Snatcher & Parker eliminated Ruca with the hit attack to become the #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship.

The OC vs Hank & Tank

Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows of The OC faced Hank Walker & Tank Ledger in a tag team match. The match swung on both sides, where Hank & Tank assisted Powerslam on Karl Anderson to win the match.

No Quarter Catch Crew, Oba Femi, D’Angelo Family

No Quarter Catch Crew came to the ring to celebrate the NXT Heritage Cup win and claimed that they have the most prestigious cup in NXT history. Oba Femi interrupted and said that the NXT North American Championship is the most prestigious. The D’Angelo Family confronted them and a brawl kicked out between the Family and NQCC. Femi tried to powerbomb Tony, but he delivered the spinebuster to the champ.

Ashante “Thee” Adonis vs Dion Lennox

Ashante Adonis brought the fight to Dion Lennox by taking him to the corner. He gave no chance to Lennox to take control. In the final moments, Adonis with the super kick picked up the win. 

NXT Championship #1 Contender’s Match

Joe Hendry, Pete Dunne & Wes Lee battled to become the #1 Contender for the NXT Championship. All three fired up and attacked each other’s moves. Lee showcased his high-flying abilities, Dunne brought the bruiserweight into action and Hendry showcased his power. The All Ego Ethan Page interfered during the match to avoid Hendry getting the pin on Dunne. Dunne delivered the Bitter End and Trick Williams from the audience delivered the Trick Shot on Dunne. While the first referee was pulled out by Page, the second referee was in the ring. Hendry chokeslammed Dunne and pinned him for the win.

After the match, Zachary Wentz jumped on Wes Lee and the securities separated them.
