The new Titles replace the Raw Tag Team Titles

On the April 15, 2024 episode of Monday Night Raw, the WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H said that WWE is in a new era. To kick-start the new era in style, they look to start it with the Tag Team Championship. Adam Pearce went on to call the Raw Tag Team Champions, Awesome Truth to the ring.

Triple H went on to reveal the new tag team titles saying that the new titles will replace the Raw Tag Team Championship and will be known as the World Tag Team Championship. Here is the first look at the new WWE World Tag Team Championship.

The new WWE World Tag Team Championship looks well rounded and gold plated. The design of the centre plate looks similar to the World Heavyweight Championship. The ‘WWE Logo’ is placed in the center over the world imparted inside a shield. The wording “WORLD TAG TEAM” is written on the top and “Champions”’ is written below the title.

Two winged eagles were placed on either side of the main plate to represent the tag team and a number of small diamonds were placed throughout the title, similar to the World Heavyweight Championship. The new design seems like the tag team champions can now have the customized side plates imparted. The leather straps have changed from red to fully black.

World Tag Team Championship history

The WWE World Tag Team Championship is the primary tag team title of WWE, from 1972 to 2002. In 2002 after the brand split, the company introduced the WWE Tag Team Championship exclusive for the SmackDown brand to make two tag team titles for each brand. In 2008, The WWE & World Tag Team titles were unified, however in 2010 the original World Tag Team was deactivated.

Following the 2016 WWE Draft, the WWE Tag Team Championship became the Raw Tag Team Championship and was made brand exclusive to Raw, after a SmackDown Tag Team Championship was made for SmackDown. In 2022, the titles were unified and defended as one under the name Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship until the tag teams got split again.

Since WWE claimed this to be the beginning of the new era, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H brought the WWE World Tag Team Championship back replacing the Raw Tag Team Championship after 14 years.
