WWE made huge mistakes in 2026.
The WWE regime has been going strong since the start of 2026 with the rise of new superstars, spectacular returns, and highly successful weekly shows and Premium Live Events.
At the same time, the Stamford-based wrestling promotion led creatively by Triple H has made its fair share of mistakes, of which here are five decisions that went completely wrong this year.
5. Letting go of top WWE stars
Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

A major blunder committed by Triple H and his regime was letting go of top names in WWE. This included stars like The New Day, Sheamus, Kairi Sane, and Ilja Dragunov, all of whom added different value to the company.
4. Overreliance on WWE returns

WWE was heavily dependent on top shows to make their shows a big hit. This included names like AJ Lee, Brock Lesnar, and more. Furthermore, they even brought back John Cena after his in-ring retirement in a different role, making it clear that their reliance on the current generation was less than on marquee names.
3. Gunther’s push slowed down

Gunther was a monster heel heading into 2026 after retiring Goldberg, John Cena, and then AJ Styles. However, right after that, his push was slowed down, and The Ring General found himself in random feuds, leading to his momentum as the Career Killer being completely lost.
2. Sami Zayn’s title reign ending so soon

It took years for Sami Zayn to finally accomplish his dream of becoming WWE Champion at the Night of Champions 2026 PLE in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, Triple H and his team took the belt from him in only nine days, making his wholesome moment and journey feel meaningless.
1. Cody Rhodes winning at WrestleMania 42

The World title feud heading into WrestleMania 42 from SmackDown was between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. Fans were fully behind Orton despite his heel turn and wanted to see him win his 15th World Championship. However, WWE booked Rhodes to retain his title, sparking a huge backlash from the audience and making it a wrong move on their end.
How has WWE performed creatively in 2026?
WWE has delivered several successful shows and introduced new stars in 2026, but some creative and booking decisions have also attracted criticism from fans.
Which WWE stars were released in 2026?
Several established names, including Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Sheamus, Kairi Sane and Ilja Dragunov, were let go by WWE during the year.
Why have some WWE booking decisions been criticized in 2026?
Some decisions have been questioned because of short title reigns, stalled momentum for established stars, an increased reliance on returning names and major outcomes that did not align with sections of the fanbase.
