Chad Gable concluded his run as “Original” El Grande Americano.
During Week 1 of the WWE x AAA Niche de Los Grandes, which emanated on May 30, 2026, at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, an iconic mask vs mask match transpired that delivered on the expectations of fans.
“Original” El Grande Americano, aka Gable, battled El Grande Americano, aka Ludwig Kaiser, who took over the persona in Gable’s absence due to injury. Gable’s return set up the feud, which was initially planned for WrestleMania 42, but WWE chose to book it in AAA.
The entire pro wrestling fan base was interested in the storyline, and the match ended up exceeding expectations, even earning the highest rating in WWE. In the concluding moments, Gable removed his mask to reveal his identity and handed it to the other Americano to conclude the feud.
After the match, Gable made an appearance on last week’s SmackDown. However, it is still unclear what WWE’s plans for him are. Gable was part of the American Made faction, which included Ivy Nile and the Creed Brothers, but his appearance and meeting with GM Nick Aldis hint at a new creative direction.
Whatever the promotion is planning, they need to act fast and capitalize on Gable‘s popularity; that’s what WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles believes.
AJ Styles lauds Chad Gable’s accolades
In the recent edition of The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, AJ Styles, while discussing the story of “Original” El Grande Americano vs El Grande Americano, noted that Gable has become a major star and WWE would be foolish not to capitalize on it.
“I think he’s a bigger superstar than he’s ever been at this very moment. If we don’t capitalize, and I say we because I’m part of WWE, we don’t capitalize on this, we’re dumb. We’re dummies.”
While lauding Gable’s accolades, Styles also added that, in his opinion, Gable can be the Heavyweight Champion.
“He can be heavyweight champion. He’s a legit freaking pro wrestler that there’s no way somebody in the crowd is going, ‘I think I can take freaking Chad Cable.’ Dude, legit, he will drop you on your head and there’s nothing you can do about it.
He will scoop you up and drop you. This guy is legit. Everything about him, his look, ability, everything about him is a scary if you know anything about collegiate wrestling or pro wrestling. This guy can take care of business. Yeah no, he’s legit.”
