Alberto Del Rio was arrested in Mexico on April 6 on serious charges.

Former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio, aka Alberto El Patron, was arrested on April 6 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, over alleged domestic violence.

According to a report from Milenio, a major Mexican multimedia group, authorities responded to a 911 call from Del Rio’s girlfriend, who reported both physical and verbal abuse.

The report indicated that the woman had injuries to her face and arms. State Civil Guard officers arrived at the scene during the alleged incident and found the victim showing signs of violence, prompting Del Rio’s immediate arrest.

He was turned over to the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office to face charges. A supposed mugshot of the former World Champion has since circulated on social media.

Since the acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide by WWE back in April 2025. The speculations about Del Rio’s return were rampant, as he is part of AAA and is among the top names.

However, Rio was absent from both the Worlds Collide event and was also absent from TripleMania, which concluded on August 16, 2025, at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. His last appearance in AAA came during a house show on 9 August.

During the absence, Patron has competed at a September 26, 2025, event for an AAA affiliate, teaming up with Mr. Iguana to defeat Sam Adonis and DMT Azul, and despite fan demand, he has yet to appear on AAA programming, let alone a speculated return to the main roster (Raw or SmackDown).

Del Rio signed with the Stamford-based promotion in 2009 and made history in 2011 by capturing both the WWE Championship (Undisputed title) and the World Heavyweight Championship, becoming the first Mexican wrestler to hold those titles.

He was released on August 7, 2014, due to “unprofessional conduct” following an altercation with an employee who allegedly made a racist remark.

Authorities have yet to provide a full statement regarding the arrest. The case is still under investigation, though the severity of the allegations has already sparked significant attention in the wrestling community, given Del Rio’s popularity.
