Several major talents got released from WWE in the last year

WWE is one of the biggest professional wrestling promotions in the world, where the best professional wrestlers all around the world compete for the ultimate glory along with great storylines. Although WWE has been the official destination for most of the talents, some top talents were unexpectedly released. So here we take a look at four of the unexpected WWE departures in the last year.

4. Jinder Mahal

Jinder Mahal, the popular Indo-Canadian former wrestler, held four championships in WWE including a WWE Championship. He worked for the Stamford-based company from 2010 to 2024 and was released from his contract in April 2024 along with several other major wrestlers in the company.

The whole wrestling industry was shocked by the unexpected release of The Modern Day Maharaja, despite having a great start for this year, sharing the ring with The Rock & challenging Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. He is now a free agent and is currently working in the independent circuit under the name Raj Dhesi.

3. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler is one of the biggest stars to get released from WWE in the past year. Ziggler was one of the longest-tenured wrestlers in WWE, who worked for the company from 2004 to 2023. He is a 16-time champion in the company and is the 22nd Triple Crown Champion.

Despite having a great legacy with the company, he was released Ziggler from his contract in September 2023 following TKO Group’s take & budget cuts with multiple talents. He is now signed to TNA Wrestling, where he performs under the name Nic Nemeth.

2. Ricochet

Ricochet is one of the greatest highflyers in the pro wrestling industry and had a great tenure in WWE from 2018 to 2024. Ricochet was a four-time champion in the company, however has requested his release upon contract expiry, whose contract is expiring by the end of June 2024. It is unknown where The Superhero would make his appearance.

1. Edge

Edge is one of the biggest professional wrestlers in the industry, who had a great legacy in WWE. Edge worked for the Stamford-based company from 1996 to 2023 and achieved monumental success in the company. He is a 31-time champion in the company and is a Hall of Famer. There is nothing that Edge has never done in WWE.

However in September 2023, Edge’s contract expired and he decided to switch to AEW under the name Adam Copeland, where he was the former AEW TNT Champion.
