‘The Ring General’ is next in line for the World title shot!
‘The Ring General’ Gunther suffered a humiliating loss against Jey Uso at WrestleMania (Saturday), where he was forced to tap out to a sleeper hold, which cost him the World Heavyweight title. However, the former Champion first turned his attention to the critics as he confronted Michael Cole and Pat McAfee.
This confrontation led to an altercation as he attacked Cole, who was aided by McAfee, who ultimately paid the price as he was put to sleep and then had to battle the Ring General in a singles match at WWE Backlash 2025, where again he was put to sleep.
The win saw him get his confidence back and continue the trend of not losing two back-to-back matches in the promotion. With the win, the Ring General confronted the man who took his title, Jey Uso, on the May 12 episode of Monday Night Raw. Gunther revealed during the segment that he was next in line for the title shot and will face the winner of Jey vs Logan Paul, which is set to May 24’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.
“The winner out of you and Logan will have the honour of handing the World Heavyweight Championship over to it’s rightful owner, ME!”
“In one month from now on June 9th in Phoenix, Arizona, I will challenge the winner out of you and Loagn for the World Heavyweight Championship”
The June 9 date mentioned by Gunther refers to the Monday Night Raw fallout show following Money in the Bank 2025, which, as the former champion noted, will emanate from PHX Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.
Goldberg is set to compete in his retirement match in 2025
WCW & WWE legend, Bill Goldberg, is officially set to retire from professional wrestling in 2025. The Hall of Famer confirmed last month that he’s officially training for his long-awaited retirement match, which is set to happen before the end of 2025.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Goldberg is likely set for a match against Gunther, with the former World Heavyweight Champion being considered for the legend’s final bout. The report further adds that currently, the match is still under discussion, and while no additional details are available, it’s being seriously considered.
Considering the possibility, it is highly likely that the Hall of Famer makes his return on the June 9 episode of WWE Raw to cost Gunther the title, reigniting their feud for a clash likely at Night of Champions or SummerSlam 2025.
The interference would only help to set up Goldberg’s final match of his career, but also help Jey retain the title, furthering his title reign.
