The Ring General is set for his first title defense in Atlanta!

‘The Ring General’ Gunther exacted his revenge on the June 09 episode of Monday Night Raw, as he put Jey Uso to sleep to capture the World Heavyweight Championship for the second time. However, his celebration on this week’s show was interrupted by a familiar face.

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg made his return on this week’s show, which emanated from the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Hall of Famer stepped into the ring and came face to face with the Champion, stating that tonight he was there to celebrate Gunther‘s title victory.

The Hall of Famer congratulated the Champion before reminding him of what he started in Atlanta, Georgia, with him and his family, and vowed to end it all in Atlanta next month.

“A few months ago, you started something with me and my family… And I am going to make sure that I end it in Atlanta, Georgia. July 12th, Saturday Night Main Event, You’re mine… BECAUSE YOU’RE NEXT!”

Gunther mocks Goldberg’s lack of stamina in the ring

Shortly after their confrontation, the promotion made the match between the two official with the World Heavyweight title on the line at the upcoming episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The July 12 edition of SNME will take place on July 12, 2025, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Ring General also took to his Instagram, seemingly unfazed by the upcoming title defense, as he teased Goldberg for his lack of stamina inside the ring. “I’m next …. guess I can spare 3 minutes.” Gunther said in a post after the encounter on Raw.

This comment has some truth to it as Goldberg’s most recent matches, which are few and far between, have been less than three minutes long, excluding a few matches like his last three matches that have gone over six minutes, eleven minutes and seven minutes respectively. Additionally, he has had a couple of matches that have lasted less than two minutes.

While the promotion has not confirmed it, this is likely Goldberg’s retirement match, as he has spoken about a final match in the promotion in 2025, and Fightful Select also reported that the HOF’s retirement match is going down at SNME on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The July 12 show will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock in the United States and on YouTube in most international markets. Additionally, WWE will also deliver the second edition of the all-women’s PLE, Evolution, from the same venue on June 13.
