Gunther defended his title at Saturday Night’s Main Event
According to recent reports, ‘The Ring General’ Gunther is set to face ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk in a steel cage match in Punk’s hometown as part of the WWE Holiday tour.
Replying to a fan query about The Ring General’s next match, Chris Featherstone revealed that the Heavyweight Champion will face the Second City Saint in a couple of weeks in Chicago as part of the holiday tour.
“Nope, it’ll be against Punk in “Chicago” as a part of the Holiday Tour in a couple of weeks. Could it be a tease for an upcoming feud? Perhaps, but we’ll have to wait and see after the Netflix debut where Punk goes.” Chris tweeted.
Chris also hinted that this might be the beginning of the new feud between Punk and the Heavyweight Champion if The Second City Saint stays on the Red brand after its Netflix debut.
WWE is visiting Punk’s hometown Chicago as part of their Holiday Tour on December 29. The Ring General is currently set to face Damian Priest with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Advertised for the Chicago show are Tiffany Stratton, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Bronson Reed, Rey Mysterio, Liv Morgan, and many more.
However, it is not confirmed if Punk will face the champion on the 12/29 Chicago show or later. The Second City Saint is also scheduled to make an appearance at Madison Square Garden at the annual WWE Live Holiday Tour event on December 26.
Gunther defeated Finn Balor and Damian Priest
The Ring General defended his World Heavyweight title against Finn Balor and Damian Priest in a triple-threat match on the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Long Island, New York, on December 14.
Gunther defeated Balor and Priest at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to bag his second consecutive win, his first win came last month against Priest at Survivor Series 2024 PLE. The Ring General’s dominant run was crushed when he suffered defeat at the hands of Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel 2024.
WWE brought back one of its most iconic events, Saturday Night’s Main Event, to primetime television after a 16-year hiatus.
This historic comeback featured a blockbuster main event. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes defended his title against Kevin Owens in what promised to be a fierce showdown. The event also featured three additional title matches and a grudge match between Sami Zayn and Drew McIntyre.
