Gunther and Damian Priest clashed at Survivor Series 2024

‘The Ring General’ Gunther made his promotional debut as Walter in 2019 in NXT at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool 2019, since his debut the Austrian native quickly made a name for himself in the promotion.

On the other hand, Damian Priest, known as “The Archer of Infamy,” made his promotional debut in 2018 within the NXT brand, similar to the Ring General. However, Priest’s first appearance in WWE took place on June 29, 2014, during the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event, where he portrayed a security guard standing behind Stephanie McMahon.

Following his promotional debut, Gunther defeated Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: New York on 5 April to win the NXT United Kingdom Championship, ending Dunne’s record-setting reign at 685 days. He then kicked off his reign at a record-setting 870 days which is the longest in promotion’s history.

In 2022, The Ring General made his main roster debut on SmackDown and quickly established himself as a dominant force on the brand. He became the first Austrian wrestler to win the Intercontinental Championship on the June 10 episode of SmackDown, defeating Ricochet to achieve this milestone.

The IC champion kicked off another record-setting reign following his win against Ricochet. His reign at 666 days is the longest IC title reign in the promotion’s history. However, the reign ended when the Austrian lost to Sami Zayn on night 1 of WrestleMania 40.

On the other hand, Priest won his first title in the promotion on August 22, 2020, at NXT TakeOver: XXX, when he bagged the NXT North American Championship in a five-way ladder match.

Following his main roster debut in 2021, The Archer of Infamy defeated Sheamus to win the United States Championship for the first time in his career at SummerSlam 2021.

Priest’s 191-day reign ended when he lost the United States Championship to Finn Balor on the February 21, 2022 episode of the Red brand.

At Payback 2023, Priest along with Finn Balor captured the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship by defeating Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, thanks in part to interference from their Judgement Day allies Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, & JD McDonagh.

However, Priest and Balor’s Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship reign came to an abrupt end at Fastlane on October 7, when JD McDonagh inadvertently struck Priest with a briefcase, allowing Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso to seize the titles.

After winning the MITB contract Priest tried multiple times to cash in his contract but failed. However, At WrestleMania XL Night 2, Priest capitalized on an opportunity to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, defeating Drew McIntyre for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after CM Punk’s interference.

The Archer of Infamy’s World title reign came to an end at the hands of Gunther following a betrayal at the hands of his own stablemate Finn Balor. Priest’s 118 reign came to an end at the hands of the King of the Ring winner at SummerSlam 2024.

The Archer of Infamy had the opportunity to exact his revenge and end the Ring General’s reign which was at 115 days. The two stars battled for the Heavyweight gold at the Survivor Series 2024 PLE in Vancouver.

Priest’s former stablemate from The Judgment Day, Finn Balor, once again made his presence felt, this time delivering a devastating Coup de Grâce from the steel steps. His interference ultimately cost the Archer of Infamy the match.

The Ring General defeated Priest to retain his title at the 2024 edition of Survivor Series: WarGames which aired live from the Rogers Arena on November 30.
