Asuka is currently out of action due to a knee injury
Former NXT and WWE Champion, Asuka has shaped WWE’s diverse landscape and has shattered records in her career with the WWE. Today we take a look at her journey to becoming the most successful Asian wrestler in WWE history.
WWE always had a diverse set of wrestlers from different cultures and backgrounds. Numerous Asian stars have competed in the squared ring and left their imprint on the world of pro wrestling. From The Great Khali to Iron Sheikh and Shinsuke Nakamura, these stars have pioneered the sport.
Among these names of WWE stars from the continent, ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ name shines bright as Asuka’s in-ring accolades are a testament to her impeccable career which includes multiple titles, an undefeated streak, and other accolades.
Current Japanese stars on the WWE roster including Shinsuke Nakamura, Kairi Sane, and Iyo Sky continue to carry the torch as the former multi-time champion has been out of action since May due to a knee injury.
Asuka’s historic journey to WWE glory involves many record-breaking feats
Since making her debut in 2015 Asuka first appeared on the NXT brand, and she quickly became the top star in the promotion. She won the NXT Women’s Championship in 2016 her reign of 522 days is the longest in the title’s history.
The Empress of Tomorrow was moved to WWE’s main roster in 2017 where she continued to dominate on the Red brand. Her domination culminated in her becoming the second Grand Slam Champion in the women’s division after Bayley.
Asuka effortlessly dominated the competition, extending her WWE undefeated streak to an incredible 914 days after two and a half years on the main roster. Her streak was broken when she lost to the then Women’s World Champion, Charlotte Flair in 2018.
The Japanese star is a three-time WWE Women’s Championship, she has also held the NXT Championship and the Women’s World Championship title once. She has won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion four times with different partners. Furthermore, she is the winner of the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble match which was held in 2022.
She has also won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2020. The multi-time champion does not just hold a plethora of ring accolades but she is revered by many of her fellow wrestlers in the women’s division. WWE stars such as Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch have spoken very highly of The Empress of Tomorrow.
The two stars have faced the Japanese star multiple times in the squared ring and have voiced their appreciation for her contributions to the division. Their praise for Asuka’s work ethic, versatility, and in-ring skills highlights the immense respect she commands within the industry.
As previously mentioned, Asuka is currently sidelined with a knee injury sustained earlier this year in May. The WWE Universe is eagerly awaiting the return of the former multi-time champion, hoping to see her back in the ring soon.
