WWE is all set to host the King and Queen of the Ring PLE on May 25, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The event will mark the coronation of the 23rd King of the Ring and 2nd Queen of the Ring, after the final matches of the tournament.

WWE previously hosted the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournament in 2021, where Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega were crowned as the King and Queen. Although the King of the Ring has been happening for years, the Queen of the Ring is a revolution. With just days away from crowning the new King and Queen, here we take a look at how Zelina Vega won the Queen of the Ring Tournament in 2021.

How did Zelina become Queen of the Ring in 2021?

Quarterfinal

In the Quarterfinals of the tournament, Zelina Vega faced Toni Storm in a singles match, where Vega performed a sunset flip powerbomb and scored the pin in a two-minute bout to enter the semifinals of the match.

Semifinal

In the Semifinals of the tournament, Zelina Vega faced Carmella in a singles match. The match began friendly, however Carmella kicked her in the face and turned things serious. Vega started throwing punches at Carmella, where she vented out asking for her face mask and for a timeout. However, Liv Morgan, whom Carmella defeated in the Quarterfinals had her mask. As Carmella got distracted Vega rolled her to pick up the win and advance to the finals.

Final

In the Final of the first-ever Queen of the Ring Tournament, Zelina Vega faced Doudrop at Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia. The match went swinging with Doudrop having the major control. However, in the final moments of the 6-minute bout, Vega countered Doudrop’s running splash and delivered Code Red to win the Queen of the Ring tournament.

With this Zelina became the first Queen of the Ring to be crowned in WWE history. It also marked the first major victory for Vega in WWE.

Queen’s reign

After winning the Queen of the Ring tournament, she adopted the name Queen Zelina and changed her accent to British English. She mimicked an England Queen kind of gimmick and appeared for a long time with the crown, cape, and scepter.
