Grayson Waller reveals his dream match!
Grayson Waller is making headlines for more than just his work inside the squared circle. The Australian star has opened up about two very different sides of his WWE journey, nearly getting into a bar fight after WrestleMania 40, and his dream of one day facing CM Punk.
The outspoken WWE Tag Team Champion shared both stories while speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, offering an unfiltered glimpse into his ambitions and behind-the-scenes life.
Grayson Waller dreams of facing CM Punk

Since CM Punk’s return to WWE in November 2023, the former World Heavyweight Champion has been at the center of high-profile storylines. He’s feuded with Seth Rollins and will team with AJ Lee against Rollins and Becky Lynch at Wrestlepalooza on September 20. For Waller, however, Punk represents much more than just another name on the roster.
“I wanna fight CM Punk. I wanna fight CM Punk so bad. I wanna have the microphone next to CM Punk,” Waller said. “He’s just spending too much time with Seth Rollins, we’ve gotta try and drag him out of that and those two have gotta stop fighting, and I wanna see what Punk’s really about.”
Waller explained that his admiration for Punk comes from their shared strengths on the microphone.
“That’s one of my dreams, because on the mic there’s no-one better. As someone who prides themself on their microphone ability, I wanna test myself against CM Punk. Because I know he’s not gonna hold back at all, he’s gonna say whatever he thinks, and that’s something that doesn’t really exist anymore.”
The 34-year-old added that he’s been sitting on some hard truths about Punk for a long time.
“I’ve got a lot to say about CM Punk, but we’ll save that for the day that it needs to be said. I’ve been saving that for a long time.”
A bar fight that nearly happened
While Punk remains a dream opponent, Waller also revealed how his WrestleMania 40 celebrations nearly turned into chaos.
After winning the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships alongside Austin Theory, Waller found himself in a tense confrontation at the talent hotel bar in Philadelphia.

“I went up to the bar to talk to him. I was like, ‘Hey, can you leave the girls alone? They’re trying to have a good night.’ This guy was very drunk,” Waller recalled. “He starts firing back at me. He goes to push me and I’m like, ‘Man, I just won the Tag Team Championships. I’m going to get in a fight at the bar at Wrestlemania. This is going to be the story.’”
Luckily for Waller, reinforcements weren’t far away. “All of a sudden, first person that walks up next to me, Shayna Baszler. She’s like, ‘Is everything all good here?’ Then as she’s talking to me, MVP walks up next. Okay, now I’m feeling I’m feeling pretty good. Then Josh Barnett, who I must admit, I’ve never met Josh Barnett. I know of him. I know he’s a badass. He steps up next and goes, ‘Is everything all right here, guys?’”
The unexpected support left Waller with what he jokingly described as his “own super team at the bar at WrestleMania.”
He said, “I sat down at the bar and I just looked at the guy like, ‘Hey, I’m good.’ Shayna Baszler, MVP, Josh Barnett, had my back. There isn’t a man alive who I think can mess with this team before. That guy, he disappeared real quickly, which was nice. I actually had a real life team of four WarGames bar team.”
Brotherhood in Wrestling
Though he wasn’t particularly close with MVP at the time and had never even met Josh Barnett, Waller was moved by how quickly his peers came to his aid.
“They saw a wrestler who was getting involved in a situation and they’re handling it with you,” he said. “I love that about the brother and the sisterhood that wrestlers have together. Even if you don’t know the person, if someone’s going to stand up, they’re going to.”
For Waller, the night served as a reminder that behind the storylines and rivalries, the wrestling world is still built on a foundation of mutual respect and loyalty.
Whether dreaming of clashing with Punk on the mic or relying on his colleagues in a tense real-life moment, Waller continues to show why he’s one of WWE’s most compelling young stars. Do let us know in the comments what you think could be a dream match for Grayson Waller.
