The two stars are set to collide on June 28 in Riyadh!

Following their fiery segment on the 06/09 episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE announced that John Cena will defend the Undisputed WWE title against ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk at the 2025 edition of WWE Night of Champions.

The 2025 edition of the show will be the 11th Night of Champions and is set for Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The show will feature stars from both the Raw and SmackDown rosters, and will host the finals of both the 24th King of the Ring tournament and the third Queen of the Ring tournament.

However, many fans were speculating if Punk would actually work the PLE, which is in Saudi Arabia. The Second City Saint has been very critical of the country and has made the headlines for his infamous comments about the country.

Ron ‘R-Truth’ Killings might replace CM Punk in Riyadh

While there are multiple stars who will be more than willing to work with Cena during his retirement tour and WWE will likely not have any issues if Punk pulls out of the match. However, the most obvious choice right now for Cena is Ron ‘R-Truth’ Killins.

The two stars have an ongoing storyline. Truth made his return during the 2025 Money in the Bank and attacked Cena, costing him the tag team match in the main event. Truth also dropped his fun-loving persona to a more serious competitor.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T even predicted in a recent edition of his Hall of Fame podcast that he sees Truth winning the World title following his return.

“You know what I see? I see Ron Killings winning the World Heavyweight Championship.“

CM Punk has likely moved on from his past comments about Saudi Arabia

According to Dave Meltzer, WWE has been planning for CM Punk to be a part of the Saudi PLE for a long time. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer revealed that despite the promotion removing Punk from a promo package for the event earlier, the response from WWE sources was “he’s going.”

During an Instagram Live, CM Punk attempted to clear the air about his disapproval of wrestling in Saudi Arabia. “I’ve never been to Saudi. I don’t hate coming to Saudi,” Punk said, responding to a fan’s question, seemingly shutting down the long-standing question.

It is unclear what the storyline and angle between Cena and Punk will be going into the title clash, but the title match in Saudi Arabia is presumably happening.
