Danhausen is now a free agent.

In the build-up towards WWE Elimination Chamber, AEW star Danhausen posted something on his socials that caught the attention of WWE fans.

The AEW star shared a photo referencing the moment in Disney’s Aladdin when the Genie is set free at the film’s conclusion. Many interpret it as a hint that his AEW contract may be ending, signaling he could soon be free to sign with any promotion.

A report from PWInsider has now confirmed that his AEW deal has expired, and he has been removed from the promotion’s roster page. This has further fueled speculations of him signing with the WWE, as reports have revealed WWE’s interest in signing the former AEW star.

Is Danhausen signing with WWE?

Danhausen signed with AEW in 2022; however, he has absent from programming since 2024. His last appearance in AEW was at AEW’s sister promotion, ROH. He made a surprise appearance during the ROH Final Battle 2024.

During his AEW hiatus, Danhausen has stayed active on the independent wrestling circuit, making several appearances and staying active inside the ring. Now, after his AEW exit, fans are wondering if he is going to sign with WWE and make his debut at Elimination Chamber, a speculation fueled by the mystery crate.

What’s in the box?

During the  February 16 episode of WWE Raw, in a backstage segment, General Manager Adam was seen examining a large crate labeled “Deliver to WWE” with strict instructions not to open it until 2/28/26, the date for Elimination Chamber.

Since then, the crate has been spotted on subsequent episodes of Raw and SmackDown, with many fans speculating about its content. Some fans have also theorized that Danhausen is inside the crate and making his official WWE debut at the Chamber event.

This idea has picked up more steam in the wake of Danhausen’s recent tweet and the report that his AEW deal has expired. Danhausen debuting in a mystery crate is also something that is firmly in line with his character and persona.

There’s no guarantee WWE will have R-Truth around forever to serve as a reliable, comedic draw. Signing the former AEW star and building him into a bigger name, supported by WWE’s marketing power, could greatly benefit the promotion.

It is possible that he makes his debut in Chicago at Elimination Chamber, where a passionate wrestling crowd would likely cheer for the star set to face off against R-Truth in a “who-can-crack-first” battle. However, there’s no official confirmation about his WWE debut, so fans will have to wait until the event to see if the speculation proves true.

Is Danhausen still under contract with AEW?

No, his AEW deal has expired, and he has been removed from the AEW website.

When and where will Elimination Chamber 2026 take place?

The 16th Elimination Chamber event will air live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on February 28.
