Dominik Mysterio recently suffered a head injury.
Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio is currently in concussion protocol after suffering a brutal chair shot to the head at AAA Rey de Reyes on March 14, 2026.
He retained the AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo, but the win came at a cost. His planned WWE Monday Night RAW match against Dragon Lee was scrapped, and his WrestleMania 42 status is now uncertain.
Dirty Dom walked out of AAA Rey de Reyes 2026 still holding the AAA Mega Championship, but the victory left fans deeply concerned. Dominik Mysterio is now reportedly in concussion protocol after taking a vicious chair shot to the skull during his title defense. With WrestleMania 42 just weeks away, the timing couldn’t be worse.
What happened to Dominik Mysterio at AAA Rey de Reyes?
Dominik Mysterio suffered a nasty head injury after El Hijo del Vikingo hurled a steel chair directly at his skull during their No Disqualification AAA Mega Championship match in Puebla, Mexico.
The impact dropped Mysterio instantly, and the referee immediately checked on him as he clutched his head. Despite the gruesome moment, Dirty Dom powered through the chaos and retained the title.
The No DQ match turned wild quickly, with both men using kendo sticks, chairs, and a garbage can. Omos interfered and chokeslammed Mysterio, but Mini Vikingo helped neutralize the outside threat. Dirty Dom then connected with the 619 and a frog splash to seal the win.
Right after the match, Dominik took to Instagram on March 14 to show off the aftermath, posting photos of blood running down the top of his head, captioning it “#ANDSTILL 😈🤷♂️.”
Dominik Mysterio is in concussion protocol

Dominik Mysterio is currently in WWE’s concussion injury protocol following his brutal night in Puebla. Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez confirmed: “Dom vs. Dragon Lee was scheduled for Raw but it appears Dom is in concussion protocol.” It was announced during RAW that Mysterio was not medically cleared and did not appear on Monday’s show.
The planned bout between Dirty Dom and Dragon Lee was pulled from the RAW card entirely. In its place, Dragon Lee and Penta competed for the Intercontinental Championship.
Judgment Day was expected to appear on RAW to explain their decision to assault and kick out Finn Balor. Instead, Liv Morgan appeared in a video vignette, stating it was always her plan to remove Balor from the group since she joined, claiming he was never in charge and was always on borrowed time.
Fans wanting to understand why Finn Balor was kicked out of the Judgment Day will now have to wait for Dirty Dom’s return to get his version of events.
What does this mean for Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 42?
This is the big question. Mysterio had been pushing for a match against Penta for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42, set for April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, WWE is currently building toward a match between Dirty Dom and Finn Balor following the Judgment Day’s betrayal.
With rumoured multiple stipulations already being discussed for a potential Balor vs Dirty Dom clash at the Grandest Stage, a prolonged absence could throw those plans into serious doubt. Finn Balor is also rumored to revive his iconic Demon gimmick for the showdown.
Fans and WWE brass will be keeping a close eye on Mysterio’s recovery over the coming days. For the latest on what’s next for Dominik Mysterio ahead of WrestleMania 42, stay tuned to Khel Now.
