The NXT Women’s Champion suffered a bloody injury.

Kendal Grey endured one of the toughest nights of her WWE career on the August 4 episode of NXT, leaving fans concerned after suffering a gruesome head injury during her NXT Women’s Championship defense against Lola Vice.

The title clash took place under NXT Underground rules, where there are no ropes and matches can only end by knockout or submission. With Lola Vice entering the bout undefeated in the stipulation, Grey faced arguably the biggest challenge of her championship reign.

Although the champion ultimately retained her title, the frightening injury quickly became one of the biggest talking points of the night.

The championship match closed the show and immediately carried a big-fight atmosphere, enhanced by Mike Rome’s special ring introductions before the opening bell.

With members of the NXT roster surrounding the ring, Grey and Vice wasted little time exchanging submissions and strikes. Since there were no ropes, neither competitor could rely on traditional rope breaks, making every hold even more dangerous.

The action soon spilled outside the ring area, where both women used the announce table and the arena floor to gain an advantage.

The turning point came when Kendal Grey attempted a dive onto Lola Vice. Vice moved out of the way at the last second, sending the champion crashing into the steel steps.

Moments later, blood began pouring from Grey’s ear, forcing the match to pause as WWE’s medical staff rushed to check on the champion following the commercial break.

Concern spread throughout the arena as officials surrounded Grey while Wren Sinclair stayed by her side during the evaluation. Despite the alarming injury, Grey refused to stay down. Frustrated by the stoppage, the champion told those around her, â€œI got it! I got it!”, before wrapping her own head and insisting on continuing the match.

Champion battles through injury to retain her title

Even after returning to the fight, it was evident that Grey was still feeling the effects of the injury. She struggled to maintain her balance while Lola Vice aggressively targeted the wounded champion, attempting to capitalize on the situation.

Vice nearly secured victory multiple times. She trapped Grey in an ankle lock before transitioning into a rear-naked choke, pushing the champion to her physical limits. The momentum briefly shifted again when Vice accidentally struck the referee with a backhand after removing her gloves.

With the official down, Grey appeared to be fading. Wren Sinclair once again played a key role, slapping the champion to bring her back into the fight before Grey responded with a superkick.

After another exchange, Grey locked Vice in a tight armbar and forced the former NXT Women’s Champion to submit, securing perhaps the biggest victory of her career.

As of now, WWE has not provided an official medical update on Kendal Grey following the match. While the bleeding from her ear created understandable concern among fans, there has been no confirmation regarding the severity of the injury or whether it will force her to miss future appearances.

Until WWE releases further information, Grey’s condition remains uncertain. What is certain, however, is that the champion earned widespread respect for her determination after battling through a frightening injury to successfully retain the NXT Women’s Championship.
