Rob Van Dam recently made his appearance on Friday Night SmackDown!
On the September 13, 2024, episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Rob Van Dam was in the house, seated amongst the WWE Universe for the blue brand’s season premiere and the return to the USA Network.
Following that, RVD was mentioned by Kevin Owens, while discussing why he chose Ricky to be his tag team partner.
Owens said that he asked many individuals to be his tag team partner including RVD, however, RVD said that he was already on another planet, and didn’t know what he was talking about.
As RVD is being mentioned back-to-back on SmackDown, it has started a huge rumor about RVD’s potential WWE return. Here is everything we know about RVD’s WWE return rumors.
Is Rob Van Dam returning to WWE?
Rob Van Dam’s appearance on SmackDown is seemingly a one-night sporadic appearance, which he has done several times since 2019. There is no update on his potential WWE return however it seems like the veteran is interested in returning to the company for one big match.
Earlier this year when John Cena announced his retirement and the retirement tour, RVD addressed Cena’s retirement on his One of a Kind podcast. RVD then opened up on his desire to return to WWE to have one last match with Cena, similar to how they had a match way back in 2006.
Rob Van Dam said, “I hope they bring me in for a rematch with Cena. That would be super cool. I don’t know if they know, but I know I could have that same match. Absolutely.”
Following that a fan on X/Twitter asked Rob Van Dam to return to WWE next year to have one more match with John Cena before his return. To which RVD said “I like it” to express his interest in returning to the WWE ring one final time.
Although RVD is seemingly interested in making his WWE return, there is no deal signed with WWE, which by default makes him a free agent. His last match was in AEW Rampage back in April 2024 and was not seen wrestling since then. Considering his interest in returning to WWE, it seems like we might see him for the one last match. However, nothing is made official as of now.
