TKO might be putting an end to Cody Rhodes’ ascent in WWE.
Cody Rhodes has transformed himself from a mid-card attraction to a bona fide top star in WWE.
After his return to the company in 2022, Rhodes began his road to the top of the mountain and had a career-defining moment when he won the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40.
Since then, the company has been pushing Rhodes as the next poster boy of this generation; however, recent events are a major indication that WWE’s parent company, TKO, might be internationally derailing The American Nightmare’s ascent in the Stamford-based promotion.
WWE’s parent company has dropped major signs of burying Cody Rhodes

The scenario of Cody Rhodes‘ downfall became clear as the road to WrestleMania 42 was about to kick off.
In an unexpected turn, The Prodigal Son dropped his Undisputed WWE title to Drew McIntyre on an episode of SmackDown. It seemed that the company wanted McIntyre to enter WrestleMania as the champion, and it became clearer when he cost Rhodes a chance to win the Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber.
However, low ticket sales for WrestleMania 42 may have forced TKO to pivot to Rhodes feuding with his former mentor, Randy Orton, and putting the belt back on him.
But even in that storyline, Orton has been positioned strongly in front of the American Nightmare, which was evident when Orton laid a huge beatdown on Rhodes on SmackDown.
At the same time, the fans are seemingly tired of seeing Cody Rhodes holding the Undisputed WWE Championship for the last two years. This is also clear from the kind of negative responses he is getting in arenas and on social media. This could have also been a driving force for TKO to bury Rhodes on the road to WrestleMania.
The most recent development in this situation has been the introduction of Pat McAfee in the Orton-Rhodes storyline. The former NFL punter’s insertion into the feud was reportedly a TKO decision and could hint that McAfee’s promo against Rhodes was the words of top management.
The final straw in this scenario could see TKO booking The American Nightmare to take a huge defeat at the hands of Orton at WrestleMania 42 and move ahead with The Viper as champion post-Mania season.
Which night will feature the match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42?
