The two stars collided in the main event of Raw in Mexico City.
World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns defended the title against the tournament winner to determine the number one contender who will face Reigns for the title on the September 14 edition of Raw in Mexico City, Mexico.
Penta outlasted the competition, defeating his brother Rey Fenix in the finals to secure the spot against the OTC. Reigns and Penta collided in the main event of this past Monday’s Raw, delivering an incredible showdown with the Mexican crowd firmly behind Penta.
Despite speculation, there was no outside interference, and the match had a clean finish with Reigns pinning Penta to retain the title and break the streak of back-to-back World title changes that started with Sami Zayn’s title win on Friday on SmackDown.
However, after the incredible showdown, speculation about a rematch arose among fans, with many feeling that Penta should’ve won the title in front of his home crowd.
Even Penta, after the loss, demanded a rematch, stating that he knows that he can beat Reigns. So, is WWE planning a rematch, or will Penta have to wait for his moment?

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, after their highly praised match on the September 14 episode of Raw, WWE currently has no plans for a rematch between Roman Reigns and Penta
The report also adds that after the positive response to their Mexico City encounter, the promotion sees a potential rematch as an option they could revisit down the line.
In another update, Votes revealed that after the title match in Mexico City, several people within WWE feel Penta has earned the chance to remain near the top of the card, believing he has established himself as a legitimate main eventer.
Following the title defense, Roman Reigns was ambushed by LA Knight, setting up his fifth title defense at the upcoming Money in the Bank 2026 in New Orleans.
