Jessica Carr has been making headlines recently.

WWE referee Jessika Carr has become an unexpected talking point in recent weeks following her tense on-screen exchanges with Becky Lynch, the reigning WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

The controversy erupted after Carr officiated two consecutive matches between Lynch and Maxxine Dupri, both of which ended controversially, one by countout and the other by disqualification.

Now, with tensions boiling over, fans are asking: Is Jessika Carr simply doing her job, or is she stepping closer to becoming an in-ring competitor once again?

On the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, Becky Lynch’s frustration reached its peak. During her title match against Maxxine Dupri, the Irish star struck her challenger with the championship belt, prompting referee Jessika Carr to call for the disqualification. It marked Dupri’s second victory over Lynch in as many weeks, though both came via non-traditional means.

The decision left Lynch fuming. The champion took to social media afterward to share her side of the story, claiming that Carr failed to maintain control of the match.

“Everybody saw it,” Lynch said in her video message. “Maxxine hit me with a closed fist, an illegal maneuver. Jessica Carr should have disqualified her.”

Lynch went even further, accusing Dupri of using her nails as an “illegal object” that caused damage to her lip.

“Experts verified that the nails Maxxine was wearing could cause intense damage,” Lynch explained. “So after that illegal shot, I decided to walk away. I wasn’t going to stoop to her level.”

Jessika Carr fires back and steps into the spotlight

While Carr did not mention Lynch by name, her response on X (formerly Twitter) made her feelings clear on the issue.

“I don’t say a lot or stir up issues,” she wrote, “but it’s wild that someone keeps talking about me… when all they’ve been doing is tapping out, getting counted out, and taking the easy way out by getting disqualified. But I’m the problem?”

It’s a rare public moment for Carr, who has been a respected figure in WWE’s officiating ranks since 2017. But her role in this storyline has raised fresh intrigue, especially since she’s not just a referee. Earlier this year, Carr quietly returned to in-ring competition.

Jessica Carr has been an in-ring competitor

On March 26, 2025, episode of WWE EVOLVE, she made her in-ring debut under a mask as Kalyx, teaming with Haze Jameson in a losing effort against Aria Bennett and Layla Diggs. WWE had filed to trademark the “Kalyx” name a month earlier, before the match, signaling possible plans to expand Carr’s character beyond her referee duties.

Before joining WWE, Carr competed on the independent circuit under the name Kennadi Brink, training under WWE Hall of Famers The Dudley Boyz. She stepped away from wrestling to become WWE’s first full-time female referee, but has now seemingly reignited her passion for performing.

Is Jessika Carr a WWE wrestler or just a referee?

Jessika Carr is primarily a WWE referee but recently returned to in-ring competition under the masked persona “Kalyx” on WWE EVOLVE, marking her first match since 2017.
