Jacob Fatu reveals how addiction almost ended his WWE dream

After a run on the independent scene, MLW, and NJPW, Jacob Fatu signed with WWE in 2024, debuting on the main roster in June 2024. Fatu joined Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline on SmackDown and became the faction’s enforcer.
Since his debut, Fatu has become one of the top names in the promotion and is currently part of the Raw roster and a member of the Bloodline faction headlined by World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns. Fatu has held the WWE Tag Team titles alongside Tama Tonga and the United States title in his career so far.
However, according to a new revelation by Fatu, his WWE career almost ended before it began due to his struggle with addiction.
Jacob Fatu got a second chance after 19 days
During his recent appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story podcast, Jacob Fatu revealed that his addiction almost resulted in WWE pulling out of his signing before his career with the company even began.
“This past WrestleMania, your husband [Triple H], I don’t mean to get deep but before I actually got hired — I almost got fired before I got hired because of my addiction and stuff. Your husband, they passed me, they did pass me. It was cause of me. Bruce called, it was all bad.“
Fatu also detailed how stressful those 19 days were for him and his family, as he had no idea if he had a job or not. The Samoan Werewolf added that he got a second chance, as Triple H wanted to give him a second chance, but made it clear that he had to get his addiction under control.
“19 days, I didn’t know if I had a job. Our kids are asking me, ‘Dad, when we moving to Florida?’ I couldn’t even answer them for 19 days because I thought it was done.
They brought me up again and your husband said, ‘We’ll give him a second chance, everybody deserves a second chance. But, when he get here, all that gotta stop.’”

Fatu recalled that with his wife’s support, he decided to quit drinking and focus on improving his physique before joining WWE. Fatu also revealed how Jimmy Uso called him daily and helped him stay on the right path.
