WWE referee Jessika Carr makes history at Backlash 2024

WWE Backlash 2024 is one of the most successful premium live events in the company. This year’s Backlash marks the first Backlash PLE to be hosted away from North America & the first PPV to be held in France. The show marked the largest gateway of any Backlash arena event in the history of the company. A total of five matches were held and every match was more anticipated and made people sit on the edge of their seats.
A championship changed hands, a sudden change in the stipulation, a surprise debut and many other things happened that night. However, it is reported that a WWE referee also made history at Backlash 2024 in France.
WWE referee Jessika Carr makes history
At Backlash 2024, Jessica Carr made history by becoming the first female referee to work in the main event for a World title match. Carr was the official for the Undisputed WWE Championship match in the main event between Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles, where Cody Rhodes won
Cody Rhodes acknowledged her accomplishment on X, after the match by writing, “Wanted to mention this after the contract signing, (and forgive me if I’m wrong but I don’t think I am…) It’ll be the VERY FIRST PLE Main Event for The Undisputed WWE Title officiated by a women @WWELadyRefJess”
To which Jessica Car thanked him saying, “Honored and incredibly grateful”
Fellow female Wrestler Daphanie LaShaunn also wished her saying, “S/o @WWELadyReffJess handling these men as the first women in WWE to ever do it! ❤️”
Carr thanked, “Thank you my lady. The future is bright. Looking your way.”
In 2021, Jessica Carr became the first woman to referee a WWE event in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel 2021, where she officiated the King of the ring finals, which Xavier Woods won. She also was the official of Edge vs Seth Rollins’ Hell in a Cell match. She is also the first referee to be called for the main roster.
It indicates that the Women’s revolution is taking place not only in the women’s roster, but also to the women’s officials. This also hints that we could see a lot of female referees working in the major matches in the upcoming shows including TV shows, Live Events & PLEs.
