Jey Uso also gave a major shoutout to his family

WWE and the Anoa’i Family are synonymous. Members of the renowned tribe have ruled the world of professional wrestling throughout history, from The Wild Samoans to The Rock and, most recently, The Bloodline. Jey Uso has recently stated a desire to move beyond the family while pitching a major WWE championship for this year.

Main Event Jey broke with Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso in mid-2023, and he ended up on RAW for a solo run. While The OG Bloodline has reconciled, Jey is still committed on earning singles gold in World Wrestling Entertainment.

He just won his first singles championship, having held the Intercontinental Championship for 27 days last year. The 39-year-old will face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship on Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 25.

Jey Uso hopes to clinch a main event slot at WrestleMania 41 by defeating The Ring General at SNME. Jey, a nine-time tag team champion with brother Jimmy as The Usos, recently talked with Netflix and briefly described his genealogy while expressing a desire to make his mark.

“I’m a second generation wrestler. I’m the son of Rikishi. I come from a long line of talented wrestlers. The Rock, Umaga, The Wild Samoans, Yokozuna. We’ve been in [the] game. In my eyes, my family helped build WWE to what it is today. I’m just trying to make my own footprint in the sand,” Jey Uso said.

Uso went on to describe how shocked he was by his 2024 achievement. The Anoa’i Family member then stated his desire to become a World Champion this year.

“2024 [was] an awesome year for me. I ain’t ever think I’d reach heights the way I did [last] year. [But now] I’m going after the World Championship. I see that in my vision. I can be a WWE champion. Let’s show it in 2025,” Jey Uso said. [H/T Netflix]

WWE has confirmed that the Intercontinental Championship will be defended later this month at SNME. The championship match will pit Bron Breakker versus Sheamus.

World Wrestling Entertainment is also just a few weeks away from hosting its 38th annual Royal Rumble. The PLE will be broadcast live from Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, February 1.

Jey Uso has confirmed that he will compete in his third 30-man Royal Rumble match next month. He is confirmed to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble with his cousin Roman Reigns, CM Punk, John Cena, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and LA Knight.

As of this writing, WWE has only announced one female Superstar for the 30-woman Royal Rumble match. Nia Jax declared on this week’s RAW that she will compete in the Women’s Royal Rumble with the hopes of qualifying for WrestleMania 41.
