‘The Cenation Leader’ was eliminated by Jey Uso

The 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena made his return earlier in January at the debut show of Raw on Netflix. During his appearance, Cena announced his entry into the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match.

Cena was looking to win the match and go on to challenge the champion at his last WrestleMania which will take place in Las Vegas in mid-April. The kick-off to WrestleMania season officially began with the Royal Rumble 2025 PLE which emanated live from the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Cenation Leader entered the men’s Rumble match at the number 23 spot after Braun Strowman. The 16-time World Champion showcased that he still has the ability as he eliminated three opponents including Braun Strowman, Logan Paul, and Finn Balor.

Cena survived the onslaught against fierce competition which included CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins among many others. In the end, he along with Jey Uso were the final participants left in the match and when it looked like Cena was going to Mania to become the 17-time champion, he was eliminated by Jey.

John Cena believes that he has earned the opportunity to win the 17th championship

The elimination not only shattered Cena’s hopes but also crushed many fans’ dreams who wanted him to win his last Royal Rumble and headline WrestleMania. However, it seems like the hustle is still not over as Cena during the post-match press conference announced his entry into the 2025 Elimination Chamber.

Cena revealed that he initially wanted his appearance to be a ‘tour of goodwill’, but later realized that for him to main event WrestleMania and win a 17th championship is ‘What is best for business’.

“Tonight, standing in that ring I wanted this experience to be a tour of good will. I’ve openly admitted I don’t know how much I have left in the tank and I just wanted to do something that would be nice for all of us to get together and have a good time. Unfortunately, tonight it dawned on me that’s not best for business.

What is best for business is I main event WrestleMania. And what is best for business is for the first time I confidently say that I am going to win a 17th championship. So I am announcing tonight that I will compete in the Elimination Chamber. And I’m saying that because after 23 years of loyal service to this company, I feel that opportunity is earned.” Cena said.

Cena announced that he’ll be taking a temporary leave to film a movie, giving the other five wrestlers in the Elimination Chamber match time to trash him and build themselves up before they face him. He finished by reiterating that his winning the 17th title is what is best for business.

Apart from the main event, Charlotte Flair made her return and won the women’s Rumble match, and Cody Rhodes retained the title against Kevin Owens. DIY also retained the Tag titles against Motor City Machine Guns.
