The 16-time WWE World Champion is set to battle Cody Rhodes!

In his final year, John Cena surprised everyone as on his quest to break the tie with Ric Flair and become the 17-time WWE World Champion, he won the 2025 men’s Elimination Chamber match and then turned heel for the first time in his long and illustrious career.

Cena turned heel as he sold his soul to The Rock, attacking the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes mercilessly, leaving him in covered in his own blood.

The two stars will now battle for the main event of WrestleMania 41 on April 20 (night two). The 41st edition of WrestleMania is scheduled to take place over two nights on April 19 and 20, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, USA.

Rhodes will put the Undisputed title on the line against Cena as the two stars will look to settle their score inside the squared ring. Cena has his sights set on winning the 17th World title in what will be his final WrestleMania.

Ahead of the clash, Cena sat down with The New York Times, where he discussed his final Mania appearance, his Hollywood career. However, his comments about the former WWE CEO Vince McMahon is what has generated a lot of buzz among fans, but the 16-time Champion doesn’t seem to care.

“I don’t care who hears it: I love Vince. I’m not downplaying anything that needs to be decided or allegations of any kind, but when I love somebody, I love them wholeheartedly. I know people are going to be angry about that, but they can’t put their value on my relationship with somebody I love.” Cena Said.

Vince McMahon resigned from his position at TKO Group in January 2024

The former co-founder and CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon, resigned as WWE CEO and chairman in June 2022, following claims of hush-money agreements over affairs with former WWE employees. He later returned to the promotion in early 2023 to facilitate the sale of the company.

In 2023, WWE merged with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) to form the TKO group by their parent company, Endeavor Group Holdings in April. McMahon returned to serve as the executive chairman of the newly merged company, TKO Group Holdings (TKO).

Vince later resigned from his position at TKO Group in January 2024 following allegations of trafficking and assault. The TKO deal is the first time that the promotion is not entirely owned and operated by the McMahon family.

While McMahon is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the WWE, he remains a major shareholder in TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of WWE and UFC as mentioned earlier.
