John Cena last faced Randy Orton at WWE Backlash 2025

The John Cena vs Randy Orton feud came to a close with their last match at WWE Backlash 2025. To commemorate the milestone, the match was scheduled as a greatest hits compilation of practically every match they’ve played against each other over the span of two decades.

Ref bumps aplenty, run-ins, and table breaks were all tales from various matches they played together throughout the years, all of which were on show in their final match together in St. Louis.

Few WWE Superstars know one another as well as Orton and Cena do. Both guys are inextricably linked to each other’s careers, having signed around the same time and graduating from the same OVW developmental class in 2002, which means they’ve battled for 23 years. Now with their final match done & dusted. Who will Cena face next?

It is not known who John Cena will be facing next, but we can expect him to face Cody Rhodes, CM Punk & many other top stars, continuing his build towards his farewell tour.

John Cena is advertised for WWE Raw after MITB 2025

The Undisputed WWE Champion is advertised for the June 9, 2025, episode of Raw in Phoenix, Arizona, as part of John Cena’s retirement tour. Cena will return to The PHX Arena for another important occasion as he inches closer to the end of his WWE career.

This revelation comes after original claims arose that Cena’s last encounter will take place in December at the TD Garden in Boston. While WWE has yet to officially confirm the precise date of Cena’s retirement battle, his performance in Phoenix will be one of his last significant televised appearances in 2025.

As WWE is heading for the WWE Saturday Night Main Event, the company has yet to confirm whether Cena will be making his appearance. At the time of writing, only two matches have been announced for WWE SNME May 2025.

There are reports of Cena taking on R-Truth at the upcoming SNME, which has picked up steam after the Champion put Truth through the table during the post-show press conference at Backlash 2025.

On May 24, world heavyweight champion Jey Uso will make his second title defense at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. After beating Gunther at WrestleMania 41, Uso’s first adversary is Logan Paul. Speaking of Gunther, the former world champion stated that he will meet the victor of Uso vs Paul on the June 9 WWE Raw.

The other contest scheduled for SNME is undoubtedly more anticipated than the world championship match. CM Punk, Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, and Bron Breakker have been involved in Raw’s largest feud. The aftermath of WrestleMania Night 1’s main event will continue on May 24.
