Randy Orton & John Cena have won a combined total of 31 World Championships

WWE has seen many legendary rivalries throughout its illustrious history. Feuds like Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart vs Shawn Michaels and The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin have defined generations and given us some of the most memorable moments and matches of all time.

Just like in the previous generations, WWE Universe witnessed yet another historic power struggle between two of the best performers of all time during The Ruthless Aggression and The PG Era. John Cena and Randy Orton have collided multiple times in the past and have had a heated rivalry during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Both were considered the faces of the company but the path they chose towards success was completely different. Where John Cena was the ultimate good guy and believed in the qualities of Hustle, Loyalty and Respect, Randy Orton prioritized winning above all.

John Cena was on the verge of being released, but due to his hard work and dedication, he became the biggest draw for the company. Randy, on the other hand, came into the promotion as a third-generation superstar and honed his skills under the tutelage of Ric Flair and Triple H.

However, the tables have turned this time around. John Cena is currently on a retirement tour but his obsession to win the WWE Championship one last time resulted in him selling his soul. He used all the underhanded tactics to dethrone Cody Rhodes from the summit at WrestleMania 41 and made history by becoming the most decorated champion of all time.

Randy Orton called out the Hollywood star about this shift back in March but the rivalry was officially renewed when Orton attacked Cena with an RKO out of nowhere on Raw after WrestleMania 41. Orton again confronted John on the most recent episode of SmackDown and they both made their match official for the 2025 Backlash Premium live event.

This was the 22nd meeting between these two future Hall of Famers and fans were very excited to see their childhood heroes clashing after eight long years, one final time for the biggest prize in the entire wrestling industry.

Cena picked up the win in this epic clash between the career-long rivals, retaining the Undisputed title to continue his reign.

Head to Head:

Randy Orton: 7
