John Cena is known to be a master of verbal barrage whether being a babyface or heel
John Cena was known to be the ultimate superhero of WWE for two decades. But everything changed in one night at the 2025 Elimination Chamber PLE. The Cenation Leader aligned with The Rock and took down Cody Rhodes, who he will battle at WrestleMania 41 for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
The Cenation Leader made his return to WWE for the first time since that night and launched a verbal rant on the entire WWE Universe. Witnessing the first glimpse of Cena’s dark side, here is a look back at seven of John Cena’s most iconic WWE promos.
7. Vanilla Ice promo
The first-ever sighting of John Cena’s impressive rapping skills that saved his WWE career came during the 2003 Halloween Party of SmackDown. Cena was dressed as Vanilla Ice and rapped through his conversation with then-GM Stephanie McMahon. The iconic start to John’s rise would always be memorable to all of his fans.
6. In-Ring promo with Stephanie McMahon
During John Cena‘s tenure as the Doctor of Thuganomics in the early 2000s, Cena was known to cut down his opponents to size and entertain the audience. He laid some Thuganomics on Stephanie McMahon too, during an in-ring segment and ended the rap with revealing his desire to slap her back side. Stephanie asked Cena to put his money where his mouth is and Cena slapped it hard in an iconic promo segment on SmackDown.
5. Calling Seth Rollins’ Triple H’s b*tch
John Cena, the WWE United States Champion, met with his 2015 SummerSlam opponent, Seth Rollins for a contract signing as both of their titles were set to be on the line. The Cenation Leader mocked Rollins for being a parody of him. He even berated him for not living up to his potential despite Triple H’s support. Following his verbal rant, Cena referred to Rollins as Triple H’s b*tch and left the ring after signing the contract.

4. Breaking Fourth Wall on Miz TV
In the build-up to his rivalry against The Miz for WrestleMania 33, John Cena decided to tear down the fourth wall. The Miz accused him of using his influence backstage to benefit himself and bury other talent. This led Cena to claim that if he did control everything behind the scenes, he would have been standing toe-to-toe with The Undertaker instead of Miz that close to WrestleMania.
3. Rapping to The Rock
After The Rock made his return to WWE in 2011, he immediately targeted John Cena. One night after the Elimination Chamber event, Cena brought out his skills in Thuganomics for one night and responded to The Great One with a scratching rap. Cena’s rap was a befitting reply to The Rock’s comments and set the tone for their historic rivalry that happened.

2. Cutting Down Roman Reigns to Size
John Cena and Roman Reigns came face to face ahead of their first-ever singles clash. Reigns tried his best to cut down Cena, but he did not know that Cena was the master of verbal battles. The 16-time WWE Champion mocked Reigns for forgetting his lines, his failed run as a babyface and claimed that it would be a cake walk defeating him at their scheduled match at No Mercy 2017.
1. Heel turn in 2025
Perhaps, the most memorable promo in the history of John Cena’s career could very well be his first verbal rant as a heel. Cena came to Monday Night RAW in Belgium after his heel turn. The Champ vented out years of frustrations on the fans for their abusive treatment and treating him like an object. Cena clarified that they meant nothing to him anymore and that he was breaking up with them for good.
