The OTC Roman Reigns suffered a loss at the 2024 Crown Jewel yesterday
Since his main roster debut in 2012, The OTC Roman Reigns has seen a meteoric rise to the top in the WWE. Reigns has been the face of the company since the departure of John Cena from full-time competition.
Reigns has dominated fellow stars inside the squared ring since his debut and has main-evented the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania seven times.
The OTC has captured multiple titles including the WWE Championship which he has held four times and the WWE Universal Championship which he has held twice.
Reigns also holds the fourth-longest world title reign of 1,316 days. His title reign was also the longest championship reign since 1988. The OTC’s title reigns was one of the most dominant the promotion has ever seen.
However, the former champion has suffered a few losses during his run in the promotion. Today we will take a look at six such names who have been able to pin down The Original Tribal Chief in the WWE.
6. Shane McMahon
In 2019, Reigns was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown, in his first appearance on the Blue brand The OTC locked horns with the bossman. Reigns superman punched the then WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
This led to McMahon’s son Shane McMahon seeking revenge against The OTC as he looked to teach Reigns a lesson. On paper this was one of the easier wins for the Big Dog but as it turned out it was a nightmare for Roman.
On June 7th, 2019, Shane McMahon went head-to-head against Roman Reigns at Super Showdown 2019. The OTC was in control of the match and was cruising for the win as he was hit with a claymore by Drew McIntyre. This interference helped McMahon bag the win against The OTC.
5. Erick Rowan
In 2019, Reigns was involved in a feud with Erick Rowan as Rowan attacked The OTC multiple times and he was looking for some payback.
After months of brutal attacks, Rown came face-to-face against Reigns in a No Disqualification Match at Clash of Champions in 2019. In the final moments of the match, Reigns was on the path to victory as Rowan’s longtime tag partner, Luke Harper appeared and attacked The OTC.
The two-on-one assault turned the tide in Rowan’s favor as he was able to pin Reigns to pick up the win at the Clash of Champions.
4. Baron Corbin
During his last effort to win fans over as a babyface, the promotion booked Reigns against one of the most hated stars of that time, Baron Corbin. Corbin won the King of the Ring earlier in 2019.
The OTC locked horns with King Corbin to try to knock him off his throne once and for all as they engaged in a brutal TLC match at TLC 2019.
While Roman Reigns was on a path to victory interference during the match by various WWE stars including Dolphy Ziggler, Scott Dawson, and Dash Wilder led to his loss. Corbin was able to pin the Big Dog after he was beaten down and left motionless on the mat.
3. Jey Uso
After years of trying as a babyface, Reigns finally turned heel in 2020 and quickly rose to the top. The OTC became a vicious killer that was on a path of destruction. Roman Reigns along with Jimmy and Jey Uso took over the company as The Bloodline.
As the Head of the Table, Reigns took the help of his cousin The Usos to assert his dominance. The dominance of The Bloodline saw the three stars holding six championships between them. Despite their immense success cracks appear to show in the faction as Jimmy & Jey Uso attack their own cousin and leave The Bloodline.
This sets up a match at the 2023 Money in the Bank PLE in London where Reigns along with Solo Sikoa faced The Usos in a tag-team match. The Civil war between the family culminated at the PLE as the four cousins went head to head.
Jey Uso was able to pin down Roman Reigns as he picked up the win and shattered Reign’s unbeaten 1294-day streak. Roman was pinned for the first time in three and a half years.
2. Cody Rhodes
In 2022, The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes left the AEW and returned to the WWE at WrestleMania 38 and defeated Seth Rollins at the biggest show of the year.
Rhodes rose to the top of the ladder as he challenged Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion in the main event of Wrestlemania 40 in April 2024.
Despite outside interference by The Bloodline, Rhodes was able to withstand the torture and continue to fight. As Solo Sikoa brutalised Rhodes and Reigns looked for a vicotry, John Cena appeared in the ring to save the day.
Cena evened the odds against Rhodes, the match also had an appearance by The Rock who landed Rock bottom of the former 16-time champion and looked to beat Rhodes with a belt. However, the surprise kept coming as The Undertaker music hits and the lights go out. The Dead Man entered the ring and choke slams The Rock.
Rhodes capitalized on the opportunity to land multiple cross road on the champion and finished the story via pinfall to defeat Roman Reigns at the grandest stage of them all.
1. Solo Sikoa
Roman Reigns most recent loss came at the hands of his former Bloodline enforcerer Solo Sikoa. Reigns was betrayed by Sikoa as Solo captured Reigns’ seat at the High Table and became the Tribal Chief adorning the Ula Fala.
Roman Reigns made his highly anticipated return at 2024 SummerSlam, this August to exact revenge on Sikoa. However, he was outnumbered in front of the team of Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa.
Reigns teamed up with The OG Bloodline that consisted of The Usos and himself. The reunion was clebrated by fans around the world. However, the celebration was cut short at Crown Jewel 2024 PLE.
Sikoa and faction decimated and pinned Reigns to bag the win at the 2024 Crown Jewel PLE in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The team of Sikoa, Tonga and Fatu ( The Bloodline 2.0) defeated Reigns and The Usos (The OG Bloodline) in a Six-Man Tag Team Match with Sikoa pinning Roman Reigns.
