WWE Speed officially debuted in 2024

WWE Speed Championship is a professional wrestling championship created and promoted by WWE. Earlier, it was an internet championship that was defended in the WWE Online program named Speed, exclusively streamed on X/Twitter.

The title was available only to male wrestlers across all three brands in the promotion. The Speed episodes are taped as the dark matches before the weekly programmes.

The Speed programme officially debuted on April 3, 2024, and was broadcast every Wednesday on Twitter. Weeks later, after episodes, WWE introduced the WWE Speed Championship and announced that the first champion would be crowned with an Inaugural Speed tournament.

On August 24, 2025, after Speed was canceled, the title was officially shifted to the NXT brand while remaining open to challengers from Raw and SmackDown, along with wrestlers from Evolve, the ID program, TNA, and Mexican sister promotion AAA.

WWE Speed Championship Legacy

The promotion hosted its first-ever Speed Tournament from April to May 2024, featuring eight of the fastest and toughest superstars, including Ricochet, Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, Axiom, Bronson Reed, Cedric Alexander, Johnny Gargano & Angel Garza. It was an elimination tournament, where only the winners advanced to the next round, and the losers were eliminated immediately. 

On the April 26, 2024 tapings, Ricochet defeated Johnny Gargano in the finals at 4 minutes 21 seconds to become the inaugural Speed Champion. The championship has witnessed two championship reigns so far. Ricochet is the oldest champion at 35, and Andrade is the youngest champion at 34.

WWE Speed Rules

Speed is a high-paced match, where the matches are held with a three-minute time limit, where every second matters. However, the championship matches are held under a five-minute time limit.

The match brings seven fresh dynamic twists to the classic in-ring competition, where some of the fastest and toughest WWE superstars from all three brands (Raw, SmackDown & NXT) compete against the time. The Superstars will fight for the ultimate prize to become the Speed Champion.

Current WWE Speed Champion

Lexis King is the current WWE Speed Champion; he defeated EK Prosper at the 2026 edition of NXT: Revengein a tournament final to win the vacant title.

Current Women’s WWE Speed Champion

NXT’s Wren Sinclair is the current champion, having beaten previous champion Fallon Henley at the Match 17, 2026 edition of NXT.

On May 1, 2024, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque revealed that the show will soon include women’s matches. This resulted in a formal announcement on August 9, 2024, revealing that a tournament for the inaugural WWE Women’s Speed Championship will commence on September 4th.

Candice LeRae beat Iyo Sky in the tournament final during the Speed tapings on October 4, 2024, to win the inaugural championship. Her reign is acknowledged as having begun on October 9, 2024, when the match was shown on tape delay. Similar to the men’s title, the Women’s title has been moved to NXT.
