Liv Morgan is the current WWE Women’s World Champion
Liv Morgan, the current WWE Women’s World Champion, has been making waves in the WWE universe. She won the World Championship after making a dramatic comeback from a shoulder injury that sidelined her for six months.
Upon her return, she ambushed Rhea Ripley from behind on the Raw after WrestleMania 40, taking her out of action for several months and forcing her to vacate the Women’s World Championship. Morgan’s triumphant return reached its peak when she defeated Becky Lynch at King and Queen of the Ring to become the new Women’s World Champion.
Since then, Morgan has been on a roll, successfully defending her title multiple times against foes like Becky Lynch and Zelina Vega. An interesting turn of events has been the involvement of Dominik Mysterio, who has inadvertently—or perhaps intentionally—played a significant role in these matches, aiding Morgan in her title defenses. Only time will reveal his true intentions.
However, Rhea Ripley made a shocking return on the July 8th episode of Monday Night Raw, chasing Morgan out of the building just as she was about to kiss her “Papi” Dominik Mysterio once again. The following week, Ripley issued a challenge to Liv Morgan for a match for the World Championship at SummerSlam, which Morgan eagerly accepted. Liv Morgan has been wanting this match from the very beginning of her so-called revenge tour.
Their upcoming match at SummerSlam promises to be nothing short of electrifying. Liv Morgan doesn’t just aim to retain her title; she has vowed to take everything away from Ripley, even suggesting that Dominik might turn on Ripley to help her achieve this goal. It remains to be seen what direction this rivalry will take at SummerSlam.
Liv Morgan’s Historic SummerSlam Record
Beating Liv Morgan at SummerSlam is a bigger challenge than it sounds. Many might not know, but Morgan boasts a 100% win record at SummerSlam. However, this stat is somewhat deceiving since Morgan has only had one match at SummerSlam in her entire WWE career. Nevertheless, the context of that victory makes the stat far more intriguing.
SummerSlam 2022
In her sole SummerSlam match in 2022, Morgan faced off against Ronda Rousey in her first title defense. Morgan had recently won the Money in the Bank in July that year and successfully cashed it in on Rousey the same night, who had already endured considerable damage during her match against Natalya. Entering her first title defense, Morgan was clearly the underdog against the formidable Rousey.
In terms of both strength and physicality, “The Baddest Woman on the Planet” had a significant advantage over Liv Morgan, leading most to believe she would lose her title during her first defense. Much to the surprise of many, Morgan outlasted Rousey and left the arena still the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.
This situation bears a striking resemblance to her current rivalry with Rhea Ripley, as she once more steps into the ring as the underdog. Considering her previous SummerSlam victory, Liv Morgan’s strategy and the dynamics of her rivalry with Ripley could play out in her favor, especially if Dominik Mysterio betrays Ripley during their match.
While Liv Morgan enters this contest as the underdog, her 100% win record at SummerSlam and the nature of her previous victory certainly tilt the odds in her favor. Her history suggests that she shouldn’t be underestimated, as there’s a strong chance she may walk out of SummerSlam 2024 still the WWE Women’s World Champion.
