WWE is set to revive the Wrestlepalooza PLE this month!
After Clash in Paris, WWE is gearing up to revive the Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event this month. The event is set for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana and will usher in the new era of WWE PLEs on ESPN.
The name Wrestlepalooza was originally used for an ECW event series that ran from 1995 to 2000. Its most prominent edition was the 1998 pay-per-view, headlined by Shane Douglas defending the ECW World Heavyweight Championship against Al Snow.
The 17-time World Champion, John Cena is being advertised for the show with multiple reports suggesting his clash with Brock Lesnar to headline the PLE. This will be Cena’s first and only Wrestlepalooza appearance, ahead of his retirement at the end of 2025.
The planned show on September 20 is the exact same day as AEW All Out in Toronto and will mark the first instance of a main roster PLE going head-to-head with AEW. Throughout 2025, WWE has counter-programmed several of AEW’s major pay-per-views with NXT premium live events.
With less than three weeks left for the PLE, the promotion has kicked off the build towards the PLE, promising a blockbuster show to kick off the ESPN era, which was earlier set to begin in 2026.
The vacant Women’s World title match will be contested in Indianapolis
During the September 1 episode of Monday Night Raw, General Manager Adam Pearce addressed the future of the Women’s World title and announced that Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer will battle for the vacant title at the upcoming Wrestlepalooza.
Pearce also revealed that Sky and Vaquer will meet in the ring next week to sign the contract for the Women’s World Championship match.
As anticipated, Brock Lesnar made his return on the September 5 episode of SmackDown in Chicago during John Cena’s US title match against the Champion Sami Zayn. This was Cena’s final SmackDown appearance as he was looking to capture the US title.
Lesnar came out taking down Sami and then attacking Cena, delivering two back-to-back F5 before leaving and cutting a promo calling out Cena, “Hey John, I’ll see you at WrestlePalooza, b*tch!” The promotion made the match official moments later.
During the September 8 episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE announced two more matches for the PLE. The Usos reunited, kicked off the show, and challenged Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed to a match on September 20. The two accepted, and the match was made official moments later.
In another segment, AJ Lee, who took Becky Lynch’s Intercontinental title, gave Lynch two options: either step into the ring and take it herself or accept a mixed tag team match at the upcoming PLE.
After back and forth, Seth Rollins joined the argument and went to pick up the title, but was confronted by CM Punk, who almost delivered the GTS. Irked by it all, Rollins accepted the match, much to Lynch’s surprise. The two real-life couples will now settle the score in Indianapolis.
On the September 12 episode of SmackDown, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his return in the final moments. Rhodes darted in to settle the score with Drew McIntyre, who, after pinning Randy Orton in the main event, was trying to inflict further punishment.
Rhodes flatlined McIntyre with the Cody Cutter and picked up the mic to announce the clash between the two for September 20.
“Drew McIntyre, The Champ is back! We can do this dance, I’ll see you my friend at WRESTLEEEEEPALOOOOZAAAAA!”
