The May 02 episode of SmackDown aired from the Wells Fargo Arena!
The May 02 episode of Friday Night SmackDown emanated live from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The show continued the build towards the Backlash PLE, similar to this week’s episode of Raw, announcing more matches for the show on May 10th.
The show kicked off with a singles clash between LA Knight and Damian Priest, which ended in DQ as Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu wreaked havoc in the match. Later in the show, General Manager Nick Aldis announced that Fatu will defend the United States title in a fatal four-way match against Priest, Knight, and Drew McIntyre.
Aleister Black pinned The Miz despite interference from Carmelo Hayes to register his first win in his first WWE in-ring performance since 2020. On the other hand, Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega defeated Piper Niven in a singles match to crush Niven’s dream of challenging for the title with a win.
Furthermore, Rey Fenix defeated Santos Escobar in an impromptu match after their heated exchange backstage, while Randy Orton cut a promo vowing to punt kick John Cena’s head off his shoulder. The team of Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill emerges victorious in the main event against the team of Naomi and Nia Jax.
During the May 02 show, the promotion also announced multiple matches and segments for the next week’s show which will air live from the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. The May 09 episode of Friday Night SmackDown will serve as the go-home show for Backlash 2025, which is set to emanate on May 10.
Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena is set to return to the Blue brand ahead of his title defense against Randy Orton at the PLE. A number one contender’s match for the WWE Women’s title has also been announced, where Jade Cargill and Nia Jax will battle for a chance at the title held by Tiffany Stratton.
Additionally, LA Knight and Damian Priest will team up ahead of the fatal four-way match to battle the team of Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa. The match was likely set due to their brawl on this week’s show.
