WWE are on the WrestleMania season and we are on the road to the grandest event, WrestleMania 40. With just a week away from WrestleMania, we take a look at one of the epic moments in the history of WrestleMania, which was held exactly on the same day.
On this day (March 29, 2015) five years ago, WWE hosted WrestleMania 31 in the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco Bay Area City of Santa Clara, California. Where Seth Rollins made history by becoming the first and only WWE Superstar till date to cash-in a Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania. Here is a quick recap of his epic cash-in.
Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania cash-in
At WrestleMania 31, in the main event of the show, Brock Lesnar defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the 2015 Royal Rumble winner, Roman Reigns. Both had a great fight, where Lesnar removed his gloves and slapped Roman to bleed from his mouth. Both after exchanging the finisher and signature moves a number of times. Both were down after the fourth F-5 and fourth Superman Punch.
While both were down, Seth Rollins ran down to the ring with his Money in the Bank briefcase and cashed-in his contract to make it a Triple Threat Match. With this Seth Rollins became the first and only person to cash-in his Money in the Bank contract in the middle of the match and at WrestleMania.
In the final moments of the match, Roman Reigns delivered a spear to Brock Lesnar, when he tried to attempt a F-5 on Rollins. Rollins hit a curb stomp on Roman Reigns to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the very first time and become the third heel to win the main event of Mania.
Other matches at WrestleMania 31
Seth Rollins previously had a match the same night against Randy Orton, where Orton defeated him with an epic RKO, by countering the Curb stomp.
Other than Seth Rollins’ matches, the event featured some of the big contests including The Undertaker vs Bray Wyatt, John Cena vs Rusev for the United States Championship, Triple H vs Sting and more.
This year at WrestleMania 40, The Visionary will again be part of two matches, where he will be teaming up with Cody Rhodes & take on The Rock & Roman Reigns on Night 1, & will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at Night 2.
