Gunther & LA Knight will battle in the tournament finals this Friday.

As the clock ticks down on the 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena‘s retirement match, the search for his final opponent has almost reached its conclusion. During the December 1 episode of Raw, Gunther defeated Solo Sikoa, while LA Knight pinned Jey Uso in the semi-finals of the tournament to decide Cena’s final opponent.

The two stars have advanced into the finals of the tournament and will battle in the upcoming December 5 episode of SmackDown to decide which star faces Cena in his final match at the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C.

Ahead of the clash, let us take a look at the four possible finishes for the finals of the tournament this Friday on WWE SmackDown.

4. LA Knight wins

It seems like WWE is finally listening to fans and giving LA Knight much-deserved screen time, as well as wins. Knight, to many fans’ surprise, pinned Jey Uso, who has been enjoying a massive push since the start of this year, and fans were sure that Knight was going to take another loss. However, despite Jey delivering a spear and the Uso Splash, Knight managed to roll Jey for a three-count.

With the win, Knight now has momentum on his side, and while he is facing a very dominant star in the Ring General, he might pull another upset win to secure his spot against Cena next Saturday.

3. Jey Uso interferes

Since the loss to Knight on the December 1 episode of Raw, Jey Uso has been crashing out, questioning his abilities and doubting his title prospects.

WWE has, for a long time, teased a heel turn for Jey, and this Friday, Jey might decide to wreak havoc during the finals of the match. Jey has history with both men, and if he decides to interfere, it will be interesting to see who he targets.

2. The Vision attacks LA Knight

Knight was earlier set to partake in the men’s WarGames match, but the plans changed, and Knight ended up not even competing at the final PLE of 2025 despite his long history with the Vision. However, WWE might decide to revive the feud with Bronson Reed attacking him during the match.

Bron Breakker and Logan Paul have already kicked off feuds with CM Punk and Rey Mysterio, respectively, and Reed might choose to attack Knight during the match or even Gunther. A potential clash between Reed and Gunther would be a PLE-level match.

1. Gunther wins

Before the tournament was even announced, reports already revealed that Gunther was set to face Cena in his final match, and a tournament would be held where he would be crowned the winner. The Ring General has been putting on incredible matches while advancing further in the tournament.

The most likely scenario would be The Ring General pinning Knight after another incredible match to secure his spot against Cena. However, plans in WWE could change at moment’s notice and fans would likely not complain even if Knight wins the finals and faces Cena next Saturday.

How will John Cena’s final opponent be decided?

His opponent will be chosen through a 16-man tournament involving stars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and outside promotions.

When and where will the finals of the tournament take place?

Gunther and LA Knight will battle in the finals of the tournament, which is set for the December 5 episode of SmackDown.
