Top four potential opponents for Cody Rhodes after his win at WWE Backlash 2024

Cody successfully retain his championship against AJ Styles at Backlash.
Cody Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40 for the first time by defeating Roman Reigns to end his 1316-day reign. Cody by winning the title became an asset to the blue brand and got retained in the roster, as champions became ineligible for the Draft. Cody and his title are exclusive to SmackDown, where wrestlers from the blue brand are only eligible to challenge him for the title.
Cody recently defended his title against AJ Styles at Backlash 2024 in his first title defense and retained it successfully. As Cody surpassed the first hurdle, who could he be facing next? Here we explore some of the potential opponents for Cody’s Undisputed WWE Championship.
Cody Rhodes vs LA Knight
AJ Styles rival LA Knight could be the next to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Mega Star was so close to becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion twice against Roman Reigns, but the Bloodline cost his opportunity. LA Knight could be the one to step his foot against Cody to challenge for the title, as there are no Bloodline threats to stop him from becoming the champ.
Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa
Solo Sikoa with The Bloodline 2.0 has been dominating the blue brand since Roman Reigns’ absence. The New Bloodline is more violent and dominant than before. Since Solo is acting to be The Tribal Chief, he could try to covet the WWE title. It is important to note that Roman’s power came after he became the World Champion, similarly Solo could do the same.
Cody Rhodes vs Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley could be the next opponent for Cody. Last week on SmackDown, Hayes teased Lashley about when he got his big moment. Lashley could take it personally and come back to claim his spot to challenge for the title. Lashley last had a title opportunity in 2022 and never competed for the World title then.
Cody Rhodes vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Shinsuke Nakamura got drafted to SmackDown on the WWE Draft. The King of Strong Style already had a great feud with Cody, before WrestleMania 40. Nakamura teased that he could be the nightmare for Cody’s dream to become the World Champion. As Cody became the World Champion, Nakamura could try to win the gold to end Cody’s title run shortly.
