Cody Rhodes retains Undisputed WWE Championship at 2024 Backlash France
This was Cody Rhodes’ first title defense after winning the championship at WrestleMania 40.
The journey of Cody Rhodes to reclaim the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania was nothing short of remarkable, culminating in a hard-fought victory over Roman Reigns in a Bloodline Rules Match. His triumph solidified his status as a top-tier competitor and marked a new chapter in WWE history.
However, as the new champion, Rhodes found himself immediately thrust into the spotlight, with challengers vying for the opportunity to dethrone him. LA Knight emerged victorious in a grueling Triple Threat Match against Bobby Lashley and Santos Escobar, while AJ Styles secured his shot at the title by overcoming Kevin Owens and Rey Mysterio in another intense Triple Threat Match.
The stage was set for a clash between two wrestling titans as Rhodes and Styles squared off to determine the No. 1 Contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Backlash France. In a rematch of their explosive WrestleMania encounter, The Phenomenal One emerged triumphant, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown between two Superstars who have left an indelible mark on both the WWE and the NWA.
As Rhodes and Styles prepare to collide in what promises to be an epic battle for championship gold, the WWE Universe eagerly awaits the outcome of this historic encounter between two of the most decorated competitors in professional wrestling history.
What happened in the match?
The match was hyped up as the first time ever match and the first one to enter the ring was AJ Syles with his phenomenal entrance before the match even began. The crowd was at best during the match giving a huge pop to AJ Styles. It was then followed by Cody’s entrance with a crowd singalong and a great “WOAH”. As always the crowd was at peak and it showed why it is important to hold events outside America. Corey and Michael Cole were on their feat after they heard 11000 people singing along with Cody even after the song ended.
The match was fast paced with offences from both Cody and Styles, the crowd was still hot as the singalong still continued. The pace reduced thereafter when Cody was in a lock by AJ Styles. The offences still continued and finally, a slap by Cody, a reply to what AJ did on the Smackdown before Backlash followed by chops to the chest by both Cody and AJ. Later in the match Cody mocked AJ on what he did last match regarding the previous gimmick of Cody, that was stardust.
Cody hit a back body drop to AJ, the cover was followed but it failed. Cody furthermore picked up AJ and hit him with a vertical suplex, thereafter AJ pushing Cody’s shoulder to the turnbuckle and attacking it again and again. The pop continued for AJ Styles in French by the audience. There were pin attempts after pin attempts, when Styles was hit by ropes on his face and Styles still being at the ringside. Both Cody and AJ were at the ringside when AJ was driven into the steel chairs and fans cheering for Cody.
Cody was on the second rope when AJ fell and thus pulling Cody with him in the middle of the ring. The Moonsault never connected when Cody got his knees up on AJ, thus getting a chance, followed by punches after punches. AJ was hit by a powerslam by Cody as he was fired up before a disaster kick and Cody’s pin attempt failed. Style hit Cody with a neck breaker outta nowhere after which, the pin attempt failed. Cody hit Styles with the bulldog after which this is awesome chants followed.

Cody was hit at the ringside with a back breaker and Cody put Styles through the French Announce table, taking him for a ride. Both the men were down with the count out happening and both of them entered at 9. Both the men were on their feet exchanging punches in the middle of the ring and kicks, thereafter losing balance and falling in the center of the ring.
Both of the men hitting each other and there was a kickout by AJ at two and a half. Both the men were down thereafter trying for the Styles Clash. Styles tried the phenomenal 450 splash but Cody kicked out at 2. Cody kicked out at one after burning hammer and Styles kicked out after Cody cutter.
Both the men looked exhausted when Cody was full of energy and tried the failing Cross Rhodes when AJ had an opening where he tried for the four arm but got a kick from Cody thereafter Kimura to Styles screaming in paining both of them countered their finishers when Cody hit a Cody cutter from the top rope and Cody charged up with a Cross Rhodes and Cody Retaining the Championship.
