Sami Zayn pinned Cody Rhodes to make history.

As we all know, this past Saturday in the main event of Night of Champions, Sami Zayn managed to pin Cody Rhodes in a triple threat match also involving Gunther to capture the Undisputed title. The win marked Sami’s first World title win in WWE, something that he has been chasing for years.

After nine failed attempts, he was finally able to capture the title and etch his name in record books. As the pro wrestling world continues to celebrate the triumphant title win of a massive underdog, new updates have provided more clarity on his title reign and the original plans for Sami to win the World title.

Sami Zayn might be a transitional champion

Following the win, WRKD Wrestling tweeted out, “Don’t get too attached,” hinting that Sami might be a transitional Champion.

Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio echoed the sentiment and stated that he doesn’t see a long reign for Zayn. “I don’t think that he’s the guy in their plans.” he also compared the situation to Darby Allin’s reign with the AEW world title, which lasted over a month before he dropped the title to MJF in a rematch.

Meltzer also added that he wasn’t certain whether the reported plans were influenced by recent criticism of WWE’s booking and claims that the creative direction had become predictable.

The move also didn’t appear to be part of a long-term storyline, as Sami had spent months since WrestleMania as a heel before abruptly turning babyface and capturing the title.

According to  Cory Hays of False Finish, the original plans were for Sami to win the World title at WrestleMania 43 next year. The Mania 2027 is set to emanate from Saudi Arabia, which might be the reason behind the plan.

However, it is still unclear why WWE decided to pivot and put the title on him at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.

What were the original plans for Sami Zayn?

Per Cory Hays, the original plan was for Zayn to win the title at WrestleMania 43 next year as the PLE takes place in Saudi Arabia.

Is Sami Zayn a transitional Champion?

WRKD Wrestling and Dave Meltzer of WON have hinted at Sami being a transitional champion, especially since there were no long creative plans involved, and Sami was working as a heel.
